Starting further north at Ohinepan and giving you an extra day on the Awa (River). This is the official Department of Conservation ‘Great Walk' which encompasses the entire navigable part of the Whanganui River - 145 kilometers worth of beauty. Meander down the river at your own pace and take in all of the incredible scenery and history to the "Bridge to Nowhere" walk.

  • It is important to book your Department of Conservation (DOC) passes but if you have any difficulty we would be pleased to help you arrange this. PLEASE NOTE A OUT OF SEASON FEE APPLIES BETWEEN 1ST MAY AND 31ST AUGUST OF 50-00PP,THIS WILL BE CHARGED ON ARRIVAL
  • You will need to sign a standard waiver before your paddle begins.
  • Let us know if you require another departure time. We are very flexible.

Department of Conservation passes are required for river camping spots—secure these in advance, or Owhango Adventures can assist with bookings.

Pack Light but Prepared

You only need personal clothing and a sleeping bag; tents, dry bags, and gear are provided to keep loads manageable.

Paddle at Your Own Pace

The itinerary allows flexible daily distances; listen to your body and don’t rush, as glare and currents vary on the river.

The fully catered meals keep you fueled, but bring water bottles and drink frequently during long paddle days.
