History

Miami grew from a Tequesta and Seminole landscape into a 20th-century gateway shaped by Cuban and Caribbean immigration, reflected in food, music and neighborhoods.

Conservation

The Everglades is the focus of large-scale restoration efforts to restore natural water flow; visitors help by staying on trails, not feeding wildlife and minimizing single-use plastics.

Adventure tips

Sun protection is non-negotiableFlorida sun is intense year-round — wear SPF 30+, a wide-brim hat and sunglasses during midday city and Everglades stops.

Bring insect repellent for the EvergladesMosquitoes and no-see-ums are common near marshes, especially at dawn and dusk; DEET or picaridin-based repellent helps.

Protect your camera gearSalt air and spray near the coast and marsh can be corrosive — use a rain cover or zip-top bag for electronics.

Confirm pickup details earlyProvide flight or cruise arrival/departure info when booking so the private transfer timing can be adjusted to meet you.

Recommended gear

Sunscreen (broad-spectrum): Protects against strong UV exposure during city walks and Everglades boardwalks.
Insect repellent (DEET or picaridin): Reduces bites when exploring marsh edges and shaded trails.
Light rain jacket or shell: Afternoon showers are common in summer—keeps you dry during transfers and short outdoor stops.
Comfortable walking shoes: Closed-toe shoes are best for boardwalks, park trails and urban pavement.
