Dawn breaks cold and thin above the tree line as your crew drives from Nanyuki toward Sirimon Gate. The trail slips from dense bamboo and indigenous podo and pine into high moorland, and the mountain grows taller in stages: a granite spine ringed with glaciers, tarns and jagged peaks. By night the camps are small lantern-lit communities; by pre-dawn you push toward Point Lenana, the trekking summit that rewards effort with a sun-sliced horizon and, on clear days, a faint outline of Kilimanjaro to the south.

Good aerobic fitness recommended — regular hikers comfortable with 6–8 hour days and steep descents; ability to move efficiently on scree is helpful.
Point Lenana is a non-technical trek but physically demanding: expect long days, steep sections and altitude up to 4,985 m; proper pacing and hydration are crucial.
No technical gear is required for Point Lenana; guides provide ropes or extra gear only in unusual conditions—sturdy boots and warm layers are more important.
Fit beginners can join, but you should have prior day-hiking experience and prepare for altitude; inform the operator of any medical concerns ahead of time.
You may spot afro-alpine species and lower-elevation wildlife like buffalo, olive baboons and numerous bird species; large mammals are more common below the forest zone.
