A wind-steeped ridge opens into a bowl of burnt ochres and steam — you step from the minibus into Landmannalaugar and the highland air takes hold. Over four days you’ll move from rhyolite peaks and obsidian deserts across river-forged plains to the birch-green embrace of Þórsmörk, sleeping in private tents each night while your luggage is shuttled between camps.

You should have strong endurance (regular hiking or cardio training); comfortable with full-day mountain hiking and carrying a daypack.
The route is challenging: daily distances range from ~8–24 km with sustained ascents (up to ~900 m) and mixed terrain; moderate to strong fitness and previous multi-day hike experience are recommended.
The tour includes minibus transfers, luggage transport between camps, private tents, three breakfasts, four lunches and three dinners, and guided navigation—participants sleep in tents provided by the operator.
Guides choose safe crossing lines and assist the group; participants should use poles, unbuckle hip-belts, have waterproof boots, and follow instructions—conditions vary with meltwater volume.
The trail is typically run in summer months when F-roads are open (June–September); pickup and drop-off are organized from Reykjavík (BSI bus station) with an evening return on day four.
The Laugavegur corridor reflects repeated volcanic episodes and historic seasonal travel; hot springs and lava fields have shaped local routes used for centuries.
The highland moss and soils are extremely fragile — stick to established trails, pack out waste, and avoid making dams or trampling vegetation around streams.
