A thin morning mist lifts from the terraces as you step off the van and into a landscape that moves around you: terraces stair-stepping down the hills, tea bushes breathing in the slopes, and narrow dirt trails that thread between stilt houses. The first footfall is the loudest—after that the rice fields, the forest and the buffalo settle into a rhythm that carries you forward.

Suitable for hikers with regular aerobic activity; expect daily climbs and uneven terrain—good leg strength and stamina help.
Daily hikes are generally moderate (7–10 km) with some steep, stepped sections—pacing and breaks are planned by the guide.
You will stay in basic Dao family homestays with simple amenities; they are clean and comfortable but rustic by Western standards.
Elevations are moderate (hundreds to low thousands of meters) and altitude sickness is uncommon, but take it easy if you are sensitive to elevation changes.
Local hosts can often adapt meals for common dietary needs—notify the operator ahead so they can arrange appropriate food.
The terraces here were shaped over centuries by Dao and La Chi communities who adapted rice cultivation to steep slopes; their textile traditions and communal work systems remain central to village life.
