Suitable for travelers in average fitness; involves short walks, some uphill viewpoints, and long periods on a coach.
A four-day loop through the heart of the Canadian Rockies that connects Banff, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and the Columbia Icefield. Expect glacier views, turquoise lakes, and scenic drives along the famed Icefields Parkway.
You step off the shuttle with a chill that smells of glacier and pine. The light hits the lakes like an incision—turquoise so sharp it seems purposeful—and the peaks around you wear last winter's snow like a low crown. Over the next four days the route unfolds like a gallery of geological extremes: mirror-flat alpine water, carved limestone canyons, and the slow, blue bulk of the Columbia Icefield pressing down the Icefields Parkway.

Moraine Lake road and parking are restricted June 1–Oct 13; arrive at first light or confirm shuttle/permit availability to avoid crowds.
Temperatures vary with elevation—bring waterproof layers and a warm midlayer for summit stops and glacial viewpoints.
Long coach days mean limited food stops; pack a refillable bottle and compact snacks for energy between towns.
Elk and bighorn sheep are common roadside; remain in the vehicle or keep 50+ metres distance and never feed animals.
Banff National Park was established in 1885 after the discovery of hot springs and rapidly became Canada’s first national park, shaping early mountain tourism and conservation.
Trails and viewpoints are within protected park lands; follow Leave No Trace, use established parking/shuttle systems where provided, and avoid feeding wildlife to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
Protects against wind, rain, and sudden mountain squalls during viewpoints and short hikes.
Support and grip for rockpile trails, canyon walks, and potential icy patches.
Carries layers, snacks, camera gear, and water for long touring days.
Operator supplies crampons in winter, but bring compatible footwear and practice using traction devices.
