You kick off from a windswept lot, helmet clipped, engine idling, and the dunes loom — blank-white ridges carved by persistent southwest winds. The sand rises in crescent shapes up to 50 metres, and each run sends a small cloud of powder into the air as the quad surges over a crest. A guide radios instructions; the dune field hushes and then pushes back as you throttle forward.
