Morning light spills into a high desert canyon as the vehicle slips out of Amman — the limestone city shrinks behind you and the road opens to ochre dunes and ocher cliffs. On day one the world’s lowest shoreline greets travelers: the Dead Sea, glassy and impossibly buoyant, its surface shimmering 430 meters below sea level. Days two and three thread together canyons and red rock: a 4x4 through Wadi Rum’s sculpted ridges and a guided walk into Petra’s Siq where El-Khazneh’s carved façade appears like a reward.
