You step off the vehicle into heat rising off the rock walls and the river’s roar folding into canyon silence. The Zambezi appears narrower here—dark, urgent, and threaded with foam—as guides sort gear and the boat skims toward the first drop. For three days you will move with the river: shockwave starts below the thundering curtain of Victoria Falls, then the batoka canyon takes over, its sheer walls throwing back light and the call of birds.
