You arrive at dawn on a long ribbon of asphalt, Cairo shrinking behind you as the desert takes over. By noon the palms of Bahariya Oasis edge the road — a green band where springs feed date groves — and soon after the landscape opens into a moonscape of black volcanic mounds and pale chalk towers. The White Desert feels alive: wind-carved pillars stand like frozen waves, daring you to walk beneath their balancing caps.
