You leave Marrakech before dawn and the city’s ochre walls shrink as the road climbs Tichka Pass. Wind presses at the windows; the High Atlas unfolds in serrated ridgelines and terraced fields, then eases into the red-brown folds of Dades and Todra valleys. By evening the dunes of Erg Chebbi rise like a living sculpture, their ridges catching the sun and then the cold of night.
