You step out of Ulaanbaatar’s city edge into a wind that seems to rearrange the horizon — grassy steppe rolling to serrated granite, rivers cutting narrow ribbons through green. The first day drives roughly 50 km northeast to Terelj National Park, where Turtle Rock and jagged outcrops create short, rewarding hikes and alpine pockets of larch and birch.
