Dust lifts off the track as the minivan peels away from Marrakech, the Atlas range shrinking behind you while the road unspools toward the Draa Valley. By late afternoon the ochre kasbahs of Ait Ben Haddou appear, then the highway thins to palm-lined villages and the Sahara’s first granules of sand. At sunset a caravan of camels threads through Zagora’s dunes; the sky cools, and the desert’s hush replaces the city’s pulse.
