You crest a high Atlas pass and the road drops into a line of ochre kasbahs; hours later the world opens into a slope of golden sand that seems to inhale the horizon. This three-day route from Fes to Marrakech threads cedar forests, river valleys and the monumental Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga, where camels step like patient ship’s masts and the sky pours stars.

The camel trek is gentle and typically about one hour at sunset and again at sunrise—mostly sitting rather than hiking; it’s suitable for most travellers.
