You arrive as the highway thins into an ochre track and the city’s hum falls away; the desert opens like a long breath. Headlamps and 4x4s cut across wind-sculpted sand toward fields of black volcanic hills and pale chalk mushrooms. Night here is a slow, enormous thing — stars press close, and the campfire argues softly with a cool, dry wind.
