The ride begins at a weathered red barn; the horses stamp, the smell of leather and hay sharp in the cold air, and a guide hands you the rein with a practiced calm. Within minutes the ranch’s tracks run down to Greycliff Creek, which dares you across shallow fords and then eases into open grasslands where the Crazy Mountains and the Absaroka-Beartooth range cut the sky.

Basic familiarity with mounting, stopping and sitting a moving horse helps; guides will brief riders but riders should be comfortable on horseback for two hours.
