The morning light slices across the escarpment as the minibus winds away from Gondar, leaving lowland heat for a thinner, sharper air. By midday the trail opens onto Sankaber’s ridgelines: grasslands whipped by wind, sheer cliffs dropping into fog-filled valleys, and Gelada troops moving like loose crowds across the slope. Camp is a scatter of tents where cooks set a pot of coffee while views pull attention toward distant pinnacles.
