Dawn arrives over the thornveld and the first elephants are already moving, trunks probing the scrub as a cool breeze pushes dust across the plains. You step into a luxury air-conditioned 4x4 and the guide eases the vehicle forward — the bush seems to breathe around you, birds calling as if announcing the day’s hunt.

Pickup is from your Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) residence or hotel at about 07:30; travel to Addo is roughly 1–1.5 hours depending on traffic and exact pickup location.
Addo and Mountain Zebra protect much of the Big 7; sightings of elephant, buffalo, lion and rhino are possible but not guaranteed—marine Big 7 species (southern right whale, great white shark) require separate marine excursions.
The tour includes one night in a chalet-style lodge within or near park boundaries with standard amenities and meal service at the park restaurant.
Families with children can join; infants are accommodated but active game drives and early starts may be tiring for very young kids.
Addo was established in 1931 to protect remaining elephants and has since expanded to include coastal marine sections; Mountain Zebra NP began as a small reserve to save the Cape mountain zebra from extinction.
Both parks use entrance and community levies to fund anti-poaching and local development; visitors can support by following park rules and choosing certified local guides.
