Dawn breaks over the Pan-American Highway as the bus hums south from Lima, the Pacific to the right and a ribbon of desert to the left. Within hours the air changes—salt from the ocean, gull cries, then the hush of sand dunes that rise like warm waves around the Huacachina oasis. Here, adrenaline meets archaeology: dune buggies carve arcs up steep faces while sandboards slice back down, and later the desert falls away beneath a small aircraft revealing the enormous, enigmatic Nazca geoglyphs.
