Situated in the heart of Pennsylvania’s scenic Poconos region, Adventure Sports offers a standout two-day, 14-mile canoe or kayak journey from Eshback to Smithfield Beach. This stretch of river showcases a dynamic blend of natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and accessible adventure, making it an ideal family-friendly excursion. Starting at the Eshback Boat Access, paddlers trace the river’s winding path past gravel flats like Buck Bar and around dramatic bends that reveal islands such as Sambo, Depew, and Poxano. Each bend offers a fresh vantage point for spotting local fauna and taking in the varied landscape.

The route balances paddling with opportunities to immerse in the outdoors via short hikes, fishing spots, and swimming breaks along well-maintained campsites such as Peters and Quinn located within Walpack Bend—the site of historic Decker’s Ferry. This blend of activities ensures that participants of all ages and skill levels stay engaged, from toddlers to seasoned paddlers.

Adventure Sports has crafted this trip to accommodate summer’s lower water levels, providing a manageable yet rewarding experience over two days with roughly five hours of paddle time each day. The company equips visitors with gear and knowledge to navigate the Poconos’ unique terrain, with an emphasis on safety and sustainable enjoyment of the river’s fragile ecosystem. Notably, bald eagles and black bears are frequent sightings, enriching the journey with moments of wild discovery.

As a dedicated local outfitter based in East Stroudsburg, Adventure Sports ties outdoor recreation to the cultural history and natural heritage of northeastern Pennsylvania. Their expertise ensures that this river corridor is both accessible and engaging, encouraging families to build lasting connections with the landscape through active, responsible recreation.
