You climb out of Arequipa before dawn and the road rolls north into alpine steppe; wind-cut grasses hunch against a sky the color of flint and the volcanoes keep watch. By mid-morning the bus pulls into Chivay, the gateway town where stone houses and a lively market frame the valley’s rhythm.

The valley and viewpoints sit around 3,400–3,600 meters above sea level; expect thinner air and plan for slower pacing.
Condor sightings are common, especially early morning at Cruz del Cóndor, but they are wild animals so sightings cannot be guaranteed.
The Puno transfer is optional; choose it at booking to extend the trip with a 320 km overland transfer to Puno after the valley visit.
