Secure the load
Use the included foam pads and straps exactly as shown to prevent movement during highway travel; double-check before leaving the lot.
Check tides and wind
If launching into Cowichan Bay, consult the tide table and wind forecast—afternoon sea breezes can make crossings choppy.
Wear a leash and PFD
Always paddle with a leash and a Coast Guard–approved PFD; even calm water can turn quickly with wind or current.
Pack for self-rescue
Bring a dry bag with extra layers, water, a whistle, and a basic repair kit for straps or fin issues on the go.
Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
Required for safety and often required by local regulations; comfortable, low-profile vests work best for paddling.
Board leash
Keeps you connected to the board if you fall off; choose a coiled or straight leash depending on conditions.
Dry bag (20–30L)
Protects water, snacks, and layers during a day paddle or short overnight trip.
