The motorboat parts the slow, red-brown Tsiribihina like a hand through velvet; riverbank palms lean in as if to watch the procession, and the current dares you to sit back and take it all in. Over three days on the water you’ll trade rutted 4x4 tracks for low-slung decks, campfires and the hush of night punctured by distant frog calls. After the river stretch the trip pushes inland to Bekopaka and the otherworldly limestone needles of Tsingy de Bemaraha, then pauses at Baobab Avenue as the sun drops behind colossal trunks.
