Dawn breaks over the rift escarpment as a Toyota cruiser rolls away from Nairobi, headlights cutting a path through red dust and acacia silhouettes. The first game drive rises with the sun; elephants mussel through scrub, and hippos shudder in Mzima’s clear pools. Over ten days the route threads Tsavo’s lava ridges, Amboseli’s plains beneath Kilimanjaro’s shadow, the chimp-rich forests near Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta’s rhino sanctuary, Samburu’s dry river valleys, the pink shores of Lake Nakuru, and finally the sweeping savannahs of the Maasai Mara.

June–October is prime for the Maasai Mara migration and dry-season visibility; December–March also offers good sightings but can be hotter.
