What to Bring

Water / Sports Drinks For your trek into the canyon, bring an ample supply of water -- we recommend 1 gallon.

Snacks / Food Bring your favorites. Area restaurants can prepare sack lunches upon request. Common snacks include fruit, trail mix, snack bars, and nuts.

Sunblock / Insect Repellant Most people find it necessary to get the highest rated sunblock they can find, then re-apply the lotion at least once for good protection.

Other Supplies To avoid sunburn, a brimmed hat is recommended. Sunglasses can help minimize the glare off the canyon sands. During the summer, we recommend a cooling towel, and a warm hat for winter/cooler temps. During the monsoon, water may be flowing in the canyon. We do not recommend crossing flowing stream beds barefoot in the event there are rocks or debris below the surface of the water.

Binoculars General purpose binoculars from small 6x30's to 12x50's will enhance your canyon experience by zooming in on the details on distant walls and in distant ruins on the rim and canyon tours. Be advised that the more powerful the magnification, "shaking" will be more amplified. Small roof prism binoculars are available from Walmart at reasonable prices. 8x30 or 7x35 are good general-purpose instruments.

Camera Digital cameras require mega-pixel imaging to produce photographs with adequate detail. A zoom lens can help.

Light Jacket We recommend dressing in layers and packing extra socks. During the monsoon, a raincoat is recommended.

Leave No Trace Policy At Canyon de Chelly Tours, we practice Leave No Trace. Please pack a plastic bag(s) / zip lock bag(s) for your items to be disposed of at the conclusion of your tour.

Cash You may have the opportunity to purchase jewelry, rugs, and crafts from Diné artisans in the canyon.

Restroom facilities Restroom facilities are available at Ledge Ruins, Antelope House Ruins, and White House Ruins only. Please pack toilet paper/napkins in case supplies are low and hand sanitizing wipes as there are no handwashing stations.
