Trempealeau Mountain Golf Club

Trempealeau, Wisconsin, USAWestern Wisconsin

Trempealeau Mountain Golf Club offers an 18-hole public course featuring open, flat fairways bordered by native fescue and elevated greens that challenge approach shots. This Midwest layout appeals to players seeking strategic play amid natural surroundings and steady winds that test shot-making throughout the round.

Course Overview

Trempealeau Mountain Golf Club presents an 18-hole layout that combines a straightforward design with natural Midwestern charm. Situated in western Wisconsin, this public course offers a predominantly flat terrain that contrasts with expectations for the nearby hilly landscape. Its open fairways wind through expanses of fescue and native grasses, framing greens that are often elevated, challenging approach shots and testing short game precision. The course favors strategic placement over brute strength, rewarding accuracy more than length.

Greens at Trempealeau Mountain are a defining feature. They roll true and fast, demanding careful read of slopes and contours. While not overly long, the fairways require attention as rough areas can be notably thick, especially the patches of fescue that border many holes. Golfers will find that elevated greens call for creative shot-making, particularly when pin positions are tucked near the edges, guarded by subtle swells and occasional bunkers.

The open landscape exposes players to the elements, and wind frequently becomes an uninvited but integral component of play. This adds a layer of strategy to each hole and encourages thoughtful club selection and shot shaping. The course’s straightforward routing allows players to maintain rhythm, though pace of play may vary with group sizes and course traffic, a consideration to keep in mind when planning a visit.

Facilities include GPS-equipped golf carts, a modest clubhouse, and a golf shop offering standard amenities. The clubhouse serves as a comfortable gathering spot after a round but maintains a no-frills atmosphere. Trempealeau Mountain appeals to a wide range of golfers, from those seeking a challenging yet accessible test of skill to casual players wanting a quality Midwest course experience.

For those planning a trip, it’s advisable to look out for late afternoon rate specials, which can deliver better value. Walkers will appreciate the generally flat terrain but should be prepared for the length and occasional rough patches with appropriate footwear. The course has earned respect locally for its well-kept fairways and greens, making it a worthwhile stop for anyone touring golf in Wisconsin’s Driftless Area.

Course Highlights

The course’s open, flat layout is bordered by natural fescue grasses that influence ball placement. Elevated greens on many holes demand precise approaches, while wind often plays a significant role in shot strategy. The modest clubhouse and GPS-equipped carts provide practical convenience without distraction. The course offers a solid test for all skill levels, emphasizing accuracy and course management over distance.

To Whom It May Concern, I wanted to share feedback regarding my group’s experience at your course on Sunday, June 1, 2025. While we greatly enjoyed the course itself and found the carts to be in excellent condition, our experience during check-in left much to be desired. When we arrived, we waited patiently at the front desk for about five minutes while the staff member, who we heard identify herself as Shyann, was in a back office. When she eventually came to the desk, she seemed visibly irritated and made us feel as though assisting us was a burden. We had inquired about a cooler with drinks and asked if we could get a mix, which was met with more attitude and what felt like frustration on her part. When it came time for me to pay for my portion of our group, I stated clearly that I just wanted to pay for my part of the golfing and didn’t need anything else. I had to state this multiple times as she repeatedly asked, “What?” and looked at me with disgust like I was saying something wrong, it left both myself and my group confused and uncomfortable. I don’t golf often, so I initially thought perhaps I was saying something incorrectly, but the rest of my group found the interaction just as awkward and off-putting. I genuinely felt that Shyann was either unwilling or unable to engage with customers in a respectful or professional manner, and it unfortunately tainted an otherwise enjoyable outing. In addition, we noticed that on several holes, the geo-fencing system in the carts would trigger even when we were clearly on or near the cart path, which became frustrating. I’m not usually one to leave negative feedback, but I believe in providing honest input so that improvements can be made. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as the overall experience at your course (outside of this interaction) was very good. It’s disappointing to feel unwelcome right at check-in, especially at a course of this caliber. Thank you for your time, Ashley

Pretty good quality course but had a somewhat tight layout. Greens were in good shape and rolled all over for challenging putts. Fairways cut nicely, roughs a little long, and fescue all over. Many elevated greens. Gps carts were a bonus but many times it warned incorrectly when cart was on the path. Clubhouse wasnt bad but nothing for a pro shop. Rates were ok but watch for late afternoon rates to make it a little better. Thought the course played well but wish the course would handle watching play pace a little better as the round ran so long with the modules warning about being behind pace. Also couldn't believe how early the beverage cart went in on a Saturday with people all over the course.

Paid $120 for 2 players. Little high. But the big issue was that had a 5 players in front of us and would not let use play thru Really slowed the round. Didn't know this course let 5 players per tee time.

Excellent service and a very well maintained course. After getting rained out midway through the back nine our group was having a beverage in the clubhouse. One of the attendants proactively asked us if our round had been rained out and offered us a rain check (in the form of a gift card) for our missed holes. Well done!
