The Golf Club at Cedar Creek

Onalaska, Wisconsin, USAWestern Wisconsin

The Golf Club at Cedar Creek in Onalaska, Wisconsin, delivers an 18-hole parkland experience rich with strategic challenges and scenic tranquility. Designed for precision and playability, the course invites golfers across skill levels to navigate its natural terrain and thoughtfully guarded greens.

Course Overview

The Golf Club at Cedar Creek offers 18 holes of thoughtfully crafted golf set amid the gentle rolling terrain of Onalaska, Wisconsin. This private course provides an inviting blend of natural beauty and strategic challenge on a layout that encourages a thoughtful, paced round. With well-maintained fairways framed by native grasses and mature woodlands, the course lives and breathes the Wisconsin landscape without overwhelming players with excessive difficulty.

The style leans toward a parkland design, emphasizing smart shot placement over sheer length. Elevation changes are subtle but sufficient to provide variety and test shot creativity around the greens. At roughly 6,700 yards from the championship tees and a par of 72, it presents a fair but engaging experience geared primarily toward dedicated golfers who appreciate precision and course management. The terrain flows naturally, creating holes that reward keen strategy and accurate iron play.

Players encounter bunkers that both challenge tee shots and guard the putting surfaces, demanding respect for course positioning. The greens vary in size and contouring, offering an approachable yet nuanced putting surface. While not built for extreme difficulty, the design stays stimulating for mid- to low-handicap players thanks to a balance of tighter fairways and risk-reward opportunities.

The clubhouse provides a welcoming environment with modern amenities that complement the golf experience. Guests can enjoy dining spaces that overlook the course, making it a pleasant spot for socializing post-round. The club emphasizes a walking-friendly course policy, ideal for those wanting to absorb the surroundings fully while engaging in the physical rhythm of the game.

For those planning to play, strong golf shoes are advised due to early morning dew and occasional soft turf conditions common in the region. Timing a visit in late spring through early fall will offer the best condition window, capturing the course’s lush, vibrant character and the region’s signature wildlife sightings.

Overall, The Golf Club at Cedar Creek offers a refined, approachable round of golf in a serene Wisconsin setting that encourages thoughtful play and quiet appreciation of its natural environment.

Course Highlights

The course features strategic bunkering that challenges both tee shots and approaches, alongside greens that balance accessibility with subtle contouring. Its natural Wisconsin setting offers glimpses of local wildlife and an open, airy feel uncommon in more densely wooded courses. The overall design promotes course management and shot-making over brute force, appealing to golfers who enjoy intellectual strategy as much as physical execution.

A beautiful golf course! I had the opportunity to serve here for a golf outing event! The views are immaculate and you are bound to see some beautiful Wisconsin wild life! When I went I saw 4 deer, and a fox (not to mention no less than 10 bird species)! I hope to play here some day in the future (God willing)! Amazing food, service a one of a kind experience. Would recommend!

I sent an email to Cedar Creek to inquire about some family photography options and Dave, who I presume is the general manager, responded to my email. In our communication I shared multiple things, why I wanted photos there, what it was for, when it was for, and even asked for fees and restrictions. Dave's responses were "short" to say the least and never really addressed any of my questions. Didn't even say hello. His last response was "check with me next year a week ahead." I'm a firm believer that first impressions are everything and this experience was a red flag. I can't imagine trying to book an event there if this is a representation of how Cedar Creek responds to and engages with potential customers. 2 stars because this is over email so giving him the benefit of the doubt that perhaps he'd come off more professional via phone or in person. Note - I did not bother responding at that point, I prefer to engage in more positive experiences even if my needs couldn't be met but perhaps I'm just old school when it comes to customer service and etiquette. And also didn't respond because I don't think the tone of the conversation would've changed. Most importantly, sharing my experience here would make more of an impact versus responding.

Overall, our experience during our wedding itself was good! The planning process was anything but. The Banquets manager was HORRIBLE to work with. 1. She promised us we could fit a certain amount of people in the room, which we later learned was not possible due to a seating chart she sent us. (In the end it was fine because we had enough no's, but this could have been very bad.) 2. She was IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with. We called/ left voicemails/ emailed and called some more with no luck. We had our taste test, and after that was radio silent--to the point that she didn't even return phone calls when we were trying to PAY HER OUR DEPOSIT, and then she complained to other people at our wedding about us not paying that deposit. Three weeks before the wedding we finally heard from her, and she left me a nasty voicemail message essentially reprimanding us for not calling her (which we had been repeatedly). Somehow she only was capable of returning my husband's phone calls/emails. Every single time I tried contacting her, it was ignored to the point that my husband had to just forward them all to her a second time, and she would only respond to him. Overall, our wedding day went very smoothly. The wait staff was well trained, and everyone raved about the delicious food! BUT if you're going to have your wedding here, be prepared to have an unnecessary amount of stress trying to contact them.
