Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City offers a public 18-hole parkland layout with rolling terrain and strategic water hazards, catering to golfers across skill levels. Well-maintained greens and a welcoming clubhouse create a versatile and accessible golfing experience in western South Dakota.

Course Overview

Meadowbrook Golf Course, located just off Jackson Boulevard in Rapid City, South Dakota, offers a public 18-hole layout that balances challenge with approachability for golfers of varying skill levels. This course presents a blend of parkland style with natural prairie influences, characterized by wide fairways that provide forgiveness alongside strategic water hazards and bunkering that require thoughtful shot-making. The landscape opens to rolling terrain, with pockets of trees lining parts of the course, creating both scenic variety and subtle complexity. Water features prominently on several holes, testing players’ precision and course management from tee to green.

While some fairways may collect water during heavier rains, which can affect playability, the course’s overall conditioning remains solid throughout the season. The greens, generally well-maintained, can vary in speed, so a warm-up on the putting green is advisable before heading out. Meadowbrook is designed with a diverse clientele in mind, making it welcoming to beginners eager to enjoy a round and challenging enough to keep more experienced players engaged. Long par 4s and 5s provide opportunities for distance golfers to test their strength, while shorter holes encourage accuracy and creative shot shaping.

The on-site clubhouse serves as a comfortable gathering space with a casual atmosphere, offering amenities such as a pro shop, snack bar, and event spaces that cater to local gatherings and celebrations. Meadowbrook emphasizes a friendly environment both on and off the course, and while the pace of play can vary, the staff work to maintain an inviting and organized golfing experience.

Walking the course is common and feasible, but players should prepare for uneven footing in wetter conditions, especially after heavy rainstorms. Sturdy shoes are recommended for those opting to walk. Cart rentals are available but not mandatory, granting visitors flexible pacing options. Overall, Meadowbrook presents a rewarding and accessible golf destination in Rapid City for players looking for a well-rounded day on the links in the heart of South Dakota.

Course Highlights

The normal starter is a bit abrasive and some of the fairways pool an unbelievable amount of water (lost two balls to shin high pools middle fairway), but an otherwise good public course that has a mix of nice, chill holes and some long, challenging par 4's and 5's. I would recommend putting on the putting green beforehand as the green speeds are not very consistent, in my experience, so having an idea of what they feel like will save some strokes.

It’s a beautiful course, but starting out today was miserable. The guy Steve at the starter shack thinks he’s the golfing god and he’s so rude. It made our golfing stressful before we even got started. He provides a service, he’s not the king.
