Champion Lakes Golf Course & Resort

Bolivar, Pennsylvania, USAWestern Pennsylvania

Champion Lakes Golf Course & Resort in Bolivar, PA features a rugged, wooded 18-hole parkland layout with well-maintained greens and strategic fairways. Its blend of natural terrain and challenging holes suits a wide range of skill levels, offering a compelling public golf experience framed by mountain views.

Course Overview

Located along PA-711 in Bolivar, Champion Lakes Golf Course & Resort offers an engaging 18-hole public layout that challenges golfers while rewarding precision and strategy. The course stretches out across a rugged, wooded landscape, where gently rolling fairways rise and fall amid mature trees and natural water hazards, creating a parkland style that demands thoughtful shot-making. Its varied topography and well-defined bunkers press players to maintain control off the tee and pay close attention to course management throughout each round.

Champion Lakes is recognized for its conditioning, with well-kept greens that provide a true roll under most seasonal conditions. While the par-3 tee boxes have drawn some criticism for their design, the quality of the putting surfaces stands out as one of the course's most commendable features. The thick second cut surrounding many fairways upholds the challenge by punishing stray shots and adding complexity when attempting to hold greens.

The layout balances length and compactness well. Longer par-4s and par-5s test distance and accuracy, while the back nine tightens considerably, demanding control over ball flight and placement. This makes the course approachable for intermediate players seeking to sharpen their skills, yet sufficiently challenging for more experienced golfers aiming to lower scores. As a public facility, Champion Lakes accommodates all levels, inviting both casual visitors and dedicated players to experience its mix of scenic variety and strategic diversity.

Off the course, the resort offers practical amenities including a pro shop with friendly staff and maintained locker rooms. Restrooms monitored for cleanliness contribute to a comfortable day of play. The welcoming environment complements the rugged outdoors, encouraging players to enjoy the natural beauty that folds into each hole's character.

Given its mountain views, wooded character, and conditionally demanding greens, Champion Lakes is a worthwhile destination for golfers traveling through Central Pennsylvania. Scheduling tee times in warmer months will maximize the experience, especially since winter conditions can leave the course less predictable. Walking is permissible, though sturdy footwear is advisable due to undulating terrain and occasional thick rough.

For golfers seeking a course that blends fair challenge with scenic variety and solid conditioning, Champion Lakes Golf Course & Resort provides a memorable and accessible test of golf in Western Pennsylvania.

Course Highlights

The course showcases a parkland style with mature trees lining fairways and natural water hazards adding strategic interest. Notable for its well-conditioned and true rolling greens, Champion Lakes features a challenging back nine with tighter fairways requiring accuracy. The course’s varied elevation changes and mountain vistas enhance the playing experience without overwhelming golfers.

This isn’t a resort.. Golf course is fantastic. Challenging and fair. Par 3 tee boxes are terrible. Some of the best public greens around IMO. Must keep your ball in the fairway as the second cut is pretty thick making it challenging to hold your ball on the green. A must play track! Staff was absolutely wonderful

First impression was not the best, no communication and drove over 25 miles to come to the course for my tee time just to find they were closed several hours after they opened. They had more then enough time to inform my party and never did, as well as immediately hanging up on incoming calls prior to set up a tee time. The service i personally received was not professional or good at all.

Played the course on an overcast November day. The greens were aerated recently and were still healing. Many of the greens had leaves and some light debris on them making putting challenging. There was a mtce worker attempting to blow the greens clear, but at 10am several greens were still not cleared. Despite the challenge of the season I really enjoyed the layout of the course except the par 5, 5th hole. The fairway on this hole is severely slanted right to left and even hitting the fairway had my ball roll all the way down to the out of bounds marker. I’d have the rough higher to the left to prevent shots rolling that far from the fairway . The back 9 is shorter, but much tighter and keeping the ball in play is crucial. The pro shop and men’s locker room could use some updating, but were adequate. The restrooms on the course were in decent shape and appreciated. The individual in the pro shop was friendly. It’s hard to evaluate a course this late in the season. However, from what I saw and experienced Champion Lakes is likely a must play in the summer.

This is a golf review. Very nice wooded course with some awesome scenery on some of the holes. Greenside on #2 is especially nice. View of the mountains on most holes. Well kept, greens in great shape, some crab grass off some of the fairways need to be cleaned up.
