Carson City, Nevada, USAWestern Nevada

Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City offers a balanced 18-hole public layout with sweeping front nine flats and a gently climbing back nine. Its approachable design, smooth greens, and vintage-inspired clubhouse invite players of all levels to enjoy a memorable round amid Nevada’s distinctive high desert landscape.

Course Overview

Silver Oak Golf Course stands as a distinctive 18-hole public course situated in Carson City, Nevada, offering golfers a blend of approachable play and scenic contrasts that reflect the region's natural character. The layout stretches just over 6,300 yards with a par of 72, providing a solid test of golf without overwhelming players. The front nine unfolds across relatively flat terrain, inviting a steady pace and strategic shot-making, while the back nine demands more elevation management, climbing gently through native sagebrush and juniper, which introduces subtle challenges that reward precise club selection and course management.

The course’s design balances playability for all skill levels. Wide fairways and forgiving roughs make Silver Oak welcoming for beginners and intermediate players seeking to build confidence. More experienced golfers will find enough subtle contouring and bunkering to keep their focus sharpened. The greens maintain a consistent speed and smoothness that encourages confident putting, though occasional breaks call for attentiveness on approach. Notably, the practice facilities include a well-maintained driving range and a dedicated bunker that allows players to refine their short-game skills within a focused setting.

The clubhouse offers a refreshing nod to automotive culture, featuring décor inspired by 1950s gas stations and classic cars, lending a playful atmosphere for post-round relaxation and socializing. Its casual dining area and enthusiastic bar staff create an inviting space for players to unwind after their rounds.

Throughout the course, natural elements such as the shifting Nevada winds add an extra layer of strategy to each shot, quietly testing tempo and accuracy. Walking is allowed and encouraged, with generally firm turf underfoot and a policy that suggests sturdy footwear, particularly on the back nine’s subtle inclines. Cart paths are well maintained, though some construction and course improvements are ongoing, signaling the course's commitment to enhancing the player experience.

Silver Oak Golf Course combines solid conditioning, accessible design, and a distinctive local flavor, making it a rewarding destination for golfers touring the Carson City area or locals looking for a reliable and enjoyable round.

Course Highlights

Loved this course. Tucked up at the northern end of Carson City, quite the gem. Front nine and back nine play completely different. Front is flat layout. Back is a climb up. Will defines play here again when visiting. Oh and I forgot to mention, the club house and driving range is automobile themed. Old gas station relics, old cars, and a 50's inspired diner look in the club house. Will probably ho there just for lunch, looks fun.

My wife and I played a very nice 18 yesterday. The course is in great shape. The staff members were all super friendly and professional. The course has some interesting and unique holes. One hole on the back nine is temporarily shortened from a par-4 to a par-3 due to construction. I had no problem with this -- it is nice to see a course that is making the investment to improve the player experience. Highly recommended.

Absolute garbage. Played this course many times in the past. Was usually good. Website says $65 for 18 after 10am. We were charged $71.75 at 11:33. One in our foursome could only play 9 and asked for some kind of discount. Absolutely not the “gentleman” behind the counter said. Course is in shitty shape. Construction all over the back nine. Tee boxes dead or swampy. Cart path detours everywhere. The greens were nice but that’s it. Will not be back… ever

Today, I received clear permission from the clubhouse to hop on from my house and play the back nine at Silver Oak. I was walking the course alone, playing respectfully and at a steady pace. Immediately after I began, a group of elderly men behind me started hitting into me — and it kept happening. The first incident happened while I was in the rough taking practice swings. A ball landed just five yards away from me. I was caught off guard — confused about who these men were and why they were hitting toward me while I was clearly still playing the hole. I let it go and continued. But after I finished the hole and was walking off the green, it escalated. One of their shots flew about 10 yards over my head — a dangerously close call. At that point, I turned around and told them to stop hitting into me. Instead of apologizing, they drove up to me and immediately got aggressive. They cursed at me and accused me of cutting in front of them. I calmly explained that I was walking the course and had permission to start on the back nine. One of them looked straight at me and said: “We don’t even care — just get out of the way when we hit.” That moment ended my round. I walked home — not because I wanted to, but because I no longer felt safe. I refused to escalate the conflict, but staying would’ve meant accepting that kind of reckless and hostile behavior, and I couldn’t do that. This wasn’t a misunderstanding. It was deliberate, aggressive, and unsafe. Golf is supposed to be a game of patience, respect, and integrity. Today, I saw none of that. I was hit into repeatedly, spoken to with open hostility, and forced to leave a round I had looked forward to. No golfer — walking or riding, young or old — should ever be made to feel like an obstacle in someone else's rush. Safety is not negotiable. Respect is not optional. And no round of golf is worth putting someone else in danger. I truly hope the kind of behavior I experienced is the exception — and that we can all do better to protect the dignity of the game and the well-being of those who love it. I also hope the course takes this seriously and finds ways to help prevent situations like this in the future.
