Course Overview

Monument Shadows Golf Course offers an 18-hole challenge set against the striking backdrop of Scottsbluff National Monument, blending natural beauty with thoughtful course design. Located in Gering, Nebraska, this public municipal layout invites golfers of varying skill levels to enjoy a game marked by both playability and strategic demands. The course stretches just over 7,100 yards from the back tees, providing ample length and elevation changes that engage low handicappers while remaining approachable through four playable tee options.

The fairways at Monument Shadows unfold through a landscape characterized by gentle hills and broad expanses of native grasses that frame each hole with a rugged, open feel. While the conditions reflect meticulous maintenance, with lushly kept roughs and smooth, fast greens, the course also rewards thoughtful shot placement. Bunkers and water hazards are strategically positioned to influence club selection and course management, encouraging players to weigh risk against reward on many holes.

For visitors, the panoramic views of the towering sandstone formations provide a dramatic companion throughout the round, especially as the sun casts shifting shadows that outline the terrain’s contours. The course’s condition often impresses even seasoned players, as the putting surfaces maintain a consistent roll despite the arid regional climate. Switching between tees allows novices to experience the layout without undue frustration, yet experts find enough challenge in wind and uneven lies to sharpen their game.

Amenities include a clubhouse with a pro shop and a grill area, though dining reviews are mixed. Practice facilities support warm-ups and short game tuning before stepping onto the first tee. Walking is welcomed and recommended for those who want to fully absorb the environment, with terrain varying from gentle slopes to moderate elevation changes; comfortable footwear is advised.

Monument Shadows provides a blend of natural scenery, well-conditioned grounds, and competitive design that makes it a standout municipal course in western Nebraska. It is an accessible destination for golfers seeking an inspiring round within reach of scenic landmarks and community hospitality.

Such an amazing course - go here if you’re within 2hr drive ! It also was fairly fast play once I got ahead of a 3some. The greens are great and true, I’m amazing considering how dry the area is, they really keep the grass alive August 2021

Drove out to Eastern Nebraska to do some sightseeing during the quarantine and decided to do some golfing while we were out there. We were not disappointed! This was a beautiful course and very well maintained. Prices were average when compared to other courses. Although it was one of the more expensive ones in the area. Still well worth it. Would definitely recommend anyone in the area to try out this course!

It was so beautiful. I drove around Scott'sbluff looking for a place to park and watch the eclipes. It was like Devine Driving, and there It was at the dead end of the road, at a trail head. It was Perfection. Love that National Monument. PEACE-OUT

Wow! What a fantastic golf course! I played the course on 6/27/25. After my round I spoke to the PGA pro and the head groundskeeper and said I'd never played a muni course in such immaculate condition. The tees were free of divots. The fairways and roughs were soft and lush. The greens were smooth, short and fast but fair. Most of the fairways are quite wide but with plenty of elevation changes, hazards and length to challenge lower handicappers and with four sets of tees higher handicappers can find a length to keep their round enjoyable. Because this is a municipal course owned by the city of Gering the green fees are very reasonable and the views of Scottsbluff National Monument are amazing!
