Fore Sisters Golf Course

Edison, Maryland, USAWestern Maryland

Fore Sisters Golf Course presents an 18-hole mountain layout with natural elevation and rugged features that offer a truthful, engaging golfing challenge. This public course balances affordability with terrain-driven strategy, making it well suited to a broad range of players seeking a straightforward, hillside experience.

Course Overview

Fore Sisters Golf Course, situated in the rugged terrain of Rawlings, Maryland, offers an unpretentious yet rewarding 18-hole golf experience that challenges as much as it invites exploration. This public mountain course first greets players with an expansive, rustic clubhouse that sets the tone for a round defined by natural elevations and uneven contours that test shot-making skills and course management alike. The layout leverages the Appalachian foothills to create holes that wind through variable elevation changes, thick woods, and rocky inclines, giving players a strong sense of place and terrain-driven strategy beyond the typical parkland or resort setting.

Measured at approximately 6,100 yards with a par of 71, Fore Sisters balances playability with challenge. It does not rely on manicured perfection but rewards patience and a willingness to adapt. Fairways at times reveal their rugged character, inviting golfers to accept uneven lies and work the ball with thoughtful precision. Greens often hold firm, demanding steady putting and an eye for subtle breaks. While maintenance can fluctuate with the seasons and weather, the course’s charm lies in its honest, straightforward presentation and affordable access.

Fore Sisters is ideal for players seeking varied elevation and an authentic mountain golf environment without the exclusivity or prices of resort courses. It’s approachable for mid- to high-handicap golfers eager to improve, yet offers enough intricacy to hold the attention of low handicaps. The scenic backdrop of forest and ridges enhances the experience, though players should come prepared for the realities of a course shaped by nature more than constant refinement.

Amenities are modest but functional, with cart rentals available though walking is encouraged for those ready to embrace the full challenge of terrain underfoot. Bug spray is advised, particularly in warmer months. As a value-driven destination, Fore Sisters invites golfers to explore a regional course where the land’s natural expression dictates the pace and style of play—an earnest mountain layout that delivers character on every hole.

Course Highlights

While maintenance can be variable, the greens typically hold well, making putting a test of touch. The clubhouse’s rustic charm complements the rugged landscape, reflecting the course’s straightforward appeal.

This course does not deserve the negativity it gets in the reviews. For $40, you get a challenging mountain course with great, playable holes. This isn't Augusta National everyone. Stop being so hard on the course. Is it in perfect shape? No, but you will enjoy your round and be perfectly satisfied with the time you spent there

Staff is nice and price is lower than you’ll pay for 18 holes anymore. That being said, the fairways and the tee boxes are abysmal. More dirt than grass on them. Course is maintained very poorly. Greens were ok. Carts kept getting stuck due to course conditions and the brakes on the cart wouldn’t stick leading me to have to park on flat ground pretty far from the ball to keep it from rolling downhill.

Course is in kinda rough shape, but it's a fun course to play. Clubhouse is really rustic and interesting. Seems like you could do a lot more with this place.

Update June 2025: In the past the course has been just okay. But I was there this week and the course was gorgeous and the greens and fairways were perfect. Looking at other recent reviews, I'm guessing the course conditions vary greatly depending on weather. But if you can catch them on a good week this the best course in the area. Im a member at Rocky Gap, but in some ways i like this better. The course is so interesting (and challenging) that it's worth giving it a try. The price is great too. So proud to have a course like this in my neighborhood. Bring bug spray though.
