Course Overview

Battlement Mesa Golf Club offers an 18-hole championship experience set against the rugged grandeur of western Colorado’s mesa country. This semi-private course rewards players with sweeping views of the Colorado River Valley and surrounding cliffs, delivering a golfing adventure that balances natural beauty with strategic challenge. Its parkland-style layout threads through varied terrain—open fairways bordered by juniper and aspen groves lead into undulating greens that reveal the designer’s intent to engage every skill level.

The course condition stands out as a highlight, consistently praised for its impeccable maintenance. From the manicured tees to the smooth, fast greens, conditions allow players to focus on shot execution without distraction. Battlement Mesa’s greens present unique topography, featuring multiple tiers and subtle slopes that demand precise approach shots and confident putting. While some players find the green complexes complex, they add a layer of strategy for those seeking more than a straightforward round.

Wind plays a notable role here, especially later in the day, requiring golfers to adjust their club selection and shot trajectory carefully. Blind tee shots appear frequently, so familiarity with the course or guidance from a seasoned caddie enhances playability and pace of play.

Designed to welcome both scratch players and enthusiastic beginners, the course includes multiple tee boxes that make it approachable without sacrificing competitive integrity. The back nine offers dramatic vistas of the mesas and the river carving through the landscape, enriching the round with visual interest that shifts with the sun’s position.

The clubhouse and staff provide a warm, relaxed atmosphere, with attentive service that complements the day on the course. Whether stopping in for a quick round or enjoying a full day of golf, guests find value in the well-maintained grounds and courteous team.

Golfers planning a visit should prepare for variable wind conditions and bring sturdy footwear for traversing the mesa terrain. Early morning tee times often present calmer winds and cooler temperatures, ideal for those who prefer a smooth rhythm to their round.

Battlement Mesa Golf Club stands as a golfing destination where natural elements shape play and course care enhances every swing. It invites players to engage thoughtfully with both the challenges and rewards of golf amid the striking western Colorado landscape.

Awesome golf course and in the best shape you could imagine. I play all over the US and you'd be hard pressed to find a course in better condition. Greens are perfect. Staff was great. Didn't eat there but had beverages and the girls at the bar were top notch. I'll play here again as soon as I can!

Mary is everything you’d expect from a pro at a high end course, and then some! The course is one of the better maintained around, stunning views and friendly, welcoming staff. If you’re on the western slope and haven’t checked this course out, you’re missing a gem.

Beautiful scenery. From a golf standpoint the layout is corny. This is mostly because of the green complexes. They feel overbuilt and overdesigned. There are so many tiers and so much undulation and slope on each tier. There multiple greens where only about 10% is usable. It’s one of the few courses I’ve played where you can hit a good shot and be penalized for it, the approach shots especially. In general it would be a lot more fun to play if the greens had been deigned to be a bit more linear sloping or just had less. The greens need more usable space.

On the way to Denver from Grand Junction I decided to stop at Battlement Mesa for a quick 18. Got a solo tee time about 50 minutes after arriving and this course did not disappoint! The architecture of the course made it challenging enough for somebody who is around scratch, especially from the tips; but its also beginner friendly from the forward boxes. The course itself is in fantastic condition overall, the greens are fairly fast paced, and the back nine has some of the best views of the surrounding mesas and the Colorado river which carved it all. Green fees are worth every penny because the course is in such great shape, so much so that I made sure to give my regards to the grounds crew. The staff at the course were all very kind and welcoming, and if I’m ever passing back through I-70 again, I will make sure to set aside four hours so I can play 18 here again.

What a great course. The staff working at the pro shop was so helpful, very friendly. Course was in great shape. Way to go grounds crew. My only complaint would be the quality of the sand in the bunkers. Very challenging greens but so worth it.

Great track, awesome views. Was in phenomenal shape in late October. It's windy so be prepared. Lot of blind tee shots so playing with someone who has played there before definitely helps. Would definitely go back and play again, highly recommend!
