Dos Rios Golf Club Inc

Gunnison, Colorado, USAWestern Colorado

Dos Rios Golf Club offers a distinctive 18-hole mountain course where elevation shifts and natural desert terrain create a thoughtful challenge. Ideal for intermediate players, this public course combines scenic vistas and a layout that gradually reveals its strategic depth.

Course Overview

Dos Rios Golf Club presents an engaging 18-hole course carved into the rugged terrain near Gunnison, Colorado. This public course blends elements of mountain golf with a touch of desert character, offering a playing experience that is approachable yet nuanced for those who appreciate varied shot-making challenges. The layout weaves through distinctive elevation changes and natural vegetation, calling for strategic club selection across every hole. Golfers will find themselves navigating a mix of gently rolling fairways and more demanding, undulating terrain that tests both driving accuracy and short game touch.

The course’s green complexes present moderate contours guarded by well-placed bunkers, demanding precision around the putting surfaces without overwhelming overly punitive design. Dos Rios is best suited for players with intermediate skill levels but still provides enough challenge to engage more experienced golfers. The second nine holes, in particular, introduce subtle complexity in both routing and elevation shifts, encouraging thoughtful navigation and revealing the course’s character gradually.

Set against Colorado’s striking high-desert backdrop, the course offers panoramic views of surrounding mesas and mountains, lending a rugged aesthetic that heightens each shot’s context without compromising visibility and playability. The local climate and open conditions often bring wind into play, adding a layer of unpredictability that tests one’s tempo and tactical decision-making.

Amenities include a clubhouse with a casual, welcoming atmosphere and on-site dining options praised particularly for hearty, well-prepared fare. The pro shop is stocked suitably for essentials, though some visitors note variability in customer service. Cart rentals are mandatory, reflecting the terrain’s demands and walking challenges posed by the course’s slopes.

Players planning their visit should remain aware of scheduling details and be prepared for seasonal variability in course conditions. Dos Rios demands respect from players but rewards those willing to adapt to its natural setting with a round that is equal parts refreshing and thoughtfully challenging.

Course Highlights

The course stands out for its interplay of mountain and desert elements, offering panoramic views and strategic elevation changes. The second nine introduces tighter fairways and challenging greens, while bunkers play a key role in guarding scoring areas. A distinctive blend of natural scenery and thoughtful layout design invites players to balance risk and reward throughout their round.

I love the course and golfing there with my friends but there is always a roadblock as soon as you get to the course and it’s the lady at the front desk who checks you in she always seems to be in a bad mood and makes it as hard as possible to get you out there and golf. But after that the course is amazing.

$90 a round for a golf course in really bad shape. They also make you purchase a cart so there is no walking rate…

Had a great afternoon at Dos Rios. Fun track some beautiful and quirky holes so better to play with a member who knows the tricks and traps!

First time there. The entire staff was welcoming, friendly and efficient. We started with the onion rings which were excellent. My neighbor and I had the burgers which were hot and delicious. They came with a dill pickle spear and lettuce, a slice of tomato and raw onion to dress the burger if we wanted. Portions are generous. The burger was the best I've had anywhere in town.

Make sure they charge you the right price if you are not local. Older lady isn't exactly nice if you don't know her and definitely got charged for 18 when I asked for a 9 hole. I double checked on their online portal so i just played all 18. Just a heads up as they will try to up charge you if you aren't local and familiar with the people, second time it has happened to my group. Otherwise great course for intermediate players. Second 9 gets tricky! Greens currently need some word but not terrible. 4 stars on the course less than 2 for the pro shop as I have never been treated so rudely before. Edit: seems like a common theme for the older lady to be incredibly rude and mis-charge "younger" or non-locals. So just a heads up if you see this and that is who is at the pro shop. Worth playing but make sure they don't rip you off.
