Links at Tuscaloosa Golf Course

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USAWest Alabama

The Links at Tuscaloosa Golf Course features an 18-hole public parkland layout that challenges accuracy with narrow fairways and smooth greens. Equipped with practice facilities and a lakeside par-3, it offers accessible golf framed by natural Alabama scenery.

Course Overview

Located in the heart of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the Links at Tuscaloosa Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout that both challenges and welcomes golfers of various skill levels. This course blends traditional design elements with natural land contours, resulting in a parkland-style layout that emphasizes strategic shot-making over sheer power. Fairways are defined by mature trees and subtle elevation changes, while well-placed bunkers guard the greens, inviting precision from tee to putting surface.

The course’s character is shaped by its narrow fairways, demanding thoughtful club selection and shot placement. This makes it particularly rewarding for golfers who enjoy testing their accuracy and course management. The greens, known for their smoothness on well-maintained days, require careful reading and confidence on approach shots. Practicing golfers can make use of a compact but effective driving range and a practice par-3 hole located near a scenic lake, offering a focused space to hone short game skills.

Scenery around the course features a mix of flat terrain and gentle slopes accented by native vegetation, with water hazards coming into play selectively. While the location offers accessibility and laid-back surroundings, players should be aware that course conditions can vary due to seasonal weather effects, including heavy rains that challenge maintenance efforts.

Facilities include a clubhouse equipped to host events and gatherings, making the Links at Tuscaloosa a community hub beyond just golf. Walking the course is encouraged, with paths reasonably maintained and suitable for most golfers who prefer to experience the game on foot. The course’s approachable layout suits players seeking a solid test without overwhelming length or complexity, making it a practical choice for locals and visitors alike.

While some recent reviews note maintenance issues, ongoing efforts aim to restore the course’s vibrancy and playability. The Links at Tuscaloosa stands as a versatile venue where golfers can engage in a thoughtful test of skill framed by the natural Alabama landscape.

Course Highlights

The course features narrow, tree-lined fairways demanding accurate shot-making and well-positioned bunkers protecting receptive, smooth greens. A practicing par-3 hole located beside a small lake provides a scenic spot to sharpen short-game skills. The blend of parkland terrain and natural water features creates a quietly engaging golfing experience.

Course is in pretty crappy shape, but that is somewhat to be expected due to all the rain we had in May. However, they don’t sell beer which is comical for a golf course. That plus their range is limited to 150. **biggest issue** I hit a person fishing on the 14th hole. Drive up to the green and there are 5 people hanging out fishing right beside the green. Finish hole 18 and on the way back to the clubhouse… guess what?? A dude is laying down on the cart path fixing his fishing rod. Dude didn’t care at all, so we went around him. Lastly… there was freshly cut grass all over the greens. Like what??? Not worth $40 for a round, choose somewhere else.

The narrow fairways make this a very challenging course. Beautiful layout. Well maintained course with smooth greens. They even have a practice par3 hole beside the lake. Well kept practice putting greens and driving range. Rusty Stephens (Head Golf Professional) is the main reason why this is one of the best public golf courses in west Alabama.

I am responding to the report of Ron not being friendly. All staff, including Ron, have always been very professional and friendly in my experience. The elements have gotten the best of the course over the past couple of years and wish it was in better shape. Three years ago it was in excellent shape and was by far the best value for an enjoyable round of golf for the value in town. I still enjoy a round out at the Links and hope work continues to maintaining the course as nature tries to destroy it. I will continue to support with booking tee times.
