Course Overview

The Green Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia, offers a compelling 18-hole challenge set against a backdrop of mature trees and rolling terrain. This public course greets players with a layout that winds thoughtfully through its wooded landscape, providing a sense of immersion with each swing. Players encounter fairways framed by towering hardwoods and pines, inviting a strategic approach that calls for both accuracy and thoughtful club selection.

Spanning over 7,000 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, the Green Course balances length with tree-lined corridors that pressure golf shots and reward well-placed drives. The course’s topography presents gentle undulations rather than steep climbs, making walking a comfortable endeavor for most golfers. Greens are known to roll true, though their subtle breaks and contours require attention and local knowledge to master the putts effectively.

The bunkers along the course act as both hazards and visual markers, often positioned to protect the greens and demand precision. While the sand quality may not match premium resort courses, the course’s conditioning remains solid, even after heavy rains where cart path rules might apply. The staff’s commitment to player experience is evident through approachable service, helpful pro shop personnel, and a friendly atmosphere that welcomes all skill levels.

Beyond the course itself, Golden Horseshoe offers amenities including a well-equipped pro shop and dining options at the clubhouse, providing a comfortable setting to relax after the round. The Green Course is particularly well suited for players seeking tree-lined test of shotmaking within a public-access setting, blending challenge with accessibility.

Visitors should prepare for potential wet conditions during rainy seasons and consider early tee times to take advantage of softer fairways and less crowded play. Walking is encouraged, with shoes offering good traction recommended due to natural terrain features. For golfers looking to explore a well-maintained, character-rich course in the Williamsburg area, the Green Course delivers a memorable day of golf with both practical enjoyment and quiet beauty.

The green course at Golden Horseshoe was our first round in Williamsburg. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. We tee’d off on time but with all the rain day before it was cart path only and a 5 hour round. The bunkers and fairways were very wet which again was understandable. It is a long course with some pretty holes.

Great service and a beautiful course! Even the grounds keepers were extremely polite and stopped what they were doing when we were hitting.

What an amazing facility with fantastic people. Gary the starter was so very friendly and helpful and really good to chat with. Larry was there when we finished and cheered our hard earned bogeys. We really appreciate those two and really all the staff. Beautiful course that is challenging and rewarding. Good shots seem like they should be ESPN worthy and the bad shots…well, the transfusions at the snack shack are delicious! Thanks y’all, we will be back!

Loved it. This is now number five in my top five courses list. Rain was in the forecast and the pro shop was very helpful when I called to discuss options. It ended up staying dry and we had a great round. Every hole is tree lined which I absolutely love. You hardly see any other golfers and no houses. Great scenery. Nice mix of holes and challenges. The sand traps were muddy but a lot of rain just came through. All in all a great round and I can't wait to return to try the Gold course and play Green again.

Played the Green Course mid-week late morning tee time. The course is beautiful and manicured. The layout is fun and presents as a journey through the woods. The greens rolled fantastic. Struggled with my reads (greens appeared to require local knowledge). Bunkers were disappointing. The course uses the lower grade sand and at times, not enough of it. Staff was professional and very approachable. Great experience. I’m glad I played the Green.

We slept terribly at home because of the bedbugs. After the treatment, we were able to rest again!

Excellent course. Challenging, but fair. Need to be able to carry the ball a little bit off the Tee to put yourself in good position. Very good value for the price.
