The Green Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club

Williamsburg, Virginia, USAVirginia Peninsula

The Green Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club delivers a tree-lined, parkland challenge ideal for golfers seeking a blend of strategic play and natural beauty. With smooth, subtle greens and a welcoming woodland setting, it offers both approachability and moments of test for all skill levels.

Course Overview

Situated in the heart of Williamsburg, Virginia, The Green Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club offers an 18-hole challenge that combines classic parkland layout with mature woodland surroundings. Designed to provide an engaging round for a broad spectrum of players, the course weaves through towering trees and gentle elevation changes, creating a setting that is both scenic and strategic. The tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, while subtle undulations on the greens test a player’s touch and reading ability. While the course provides rewarding opportunities for low handicappers seeking risk-and-reward scenarios, it remains approachable for mid to high handicappers who value thoughtful shot selection over raw distance.

Golfers will appreciate the well-maintained greens that consistently roll true, though local knowledge can enhance putting performance given the nuanced breaks and slopes found across the putting surfaces. The bunkers, while occasionally affected by seasonal moisture and maintenance cycles, guard the key landing zones and certain greens with firm presence, urging caution and precision.

The Green Course’s layout embraces its woodland backdrop, with few sightlines revealing other golfers or nearby residences, creating a sense of escape without leaving town. The vibrant canopy shifts color through the seasons, adding natural drama and variety from early spring through late fall. This quiet setting is supported by attentive and friendly staff who enhance the overall experience with thoughtful service.

Visitors should take note that heavy rains can make the course play cart-path only, affecting round duration, so planning tee times during forecast windows helps ensure the best conditions. Walking is welcomed and rewarding here, especially for players who enjoy interpreting the terrain on foot, though sturdy shoes suitable for gentle hills and occasional damp turf are advised. The on-course snack shack provides a perfect spot to recharge after a demanding stretch, offering a casual atmosphere to reflect on the round.

Whether returning to fine-tune skills or embarking on a first visit, The Green Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club blends comfort with challenge in a relaxed, friendly environment that highlights Williamsburg’s golf heritage.

Course Highlights

Played the Green Course mid-week late morning tee time. The course is beautiful and manicured. The layout is fun and presents as a journey through the woods. The greens rolled fantastic. Struggled with my reads (greens appeared to require local knowledge). Bunkers were disappointing. The course uses the lower grade sand and at times, not enough of it. Staff was professional and very approachable. Great experience. I’m glad I played the Green.

What an amazing facility with fantastic people. Gary the starter was so very friendly and helpful and really good to chat with. Larry was there when we finished and cheered our hard earned bogeys. We really appreciate those two and really all the staff. Beautiful course that is challenging and rewarding. Good shots seem like they should be ESPN worthy and the bad shots…well, the transfusions at the snack shack are delicious! Thanks y’all, we will be back!

Great service and a beautiful course! Even the grounds keepers were extremely polite and stopped what they were doing when we were hitting.

Excellent course. Challenging, but fair. Need to be able to carry the ball a little bit off the Tee to put yourself in good position. Very good value for the price.

Loved it. This is now number five in my top five courses list. Rain was in the forecast and the pro shop was very helpful when I called to discuss options. It ended up staying dry and we had a great round. Every hole is tree lined which I absolutely love. You hardly see any other golfers and no houses. Great scenery. Nice mix of holes and challenges. The sand traps were muddy but a lot of rain just came through. All in all a great round and I can't wait to return to try the Gold course and play Green again.

We slept terribly at home because of the bedbugs. After the treatment, we were able to rest again!

The green course at Golden Horseshoe was our first round in Williamsburg. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. We tee’d off on time but with all the rain day before it was cart path only and a 5 hour round. The bunkers and fairways were very wet which again was understandable. It is a long course with some pretty holes.
