Ashwood Golf Course & Grill
Ashwood Golf Course & Grill presents a distinctive 18-hole desert layout focusing on accuracy and strategy within a compact par 65 framework. Known for its well-maintained fairways, challenging bunkers, and excellent clubhouse dining, it offers a refreshing play experience amid the sweeping high desert landscape.
Course Overview
Ashwood Golf Course & Grill offers a distinctive 18-hole experience tailored for both casual players and those seeking a brisk, engaging challenge. Located in the high desert of Apple Valley, California, this public course features a par 65 layout spanning approximately 4,800 yards. While shorter than traditional championship terrains, Ashwood demands precision off the tee and strategic thinking throughout, particularly with its well-maintained fairways flanked by sizeable bunkers and thick rough. The absence of par 5s shifts focus to accuracy, inviting players to test their iron play and short game on a course that rewards thoughtful shot-making more than sheer distance.
The course’s environment reflects the desert setting, where wide-open skies stretch above and gentle elevations shape a layout that feels open yet structured. Sunlight casts long shadows in the early morning rounds, adding dimension to the greens, which are praised for their smoothness and consistent speed, especially given recent renovations. Sand bunkers present a unique challenge here; many are composed of coarse dirt and larger rocks, requiring players to carefully navigate hazards that protect key landing zones and pinch points.
Ashwood’s approachable design welcomes golfers of varied experience without sacrificing moments of strategic depth. Long hitters will appreciate holes where reaching green in regulation offers reward, but the thick rough and tricky bunker placements make every shot count. For those returning after time away, the friendly atmosphere scored high on player reviews, with the course’s outstanding upkeep standing out among regional alternatives.
Off the course, the attached Grill provides a top-tier dining option rare for desert-area golf facilities. The clubhouse atmosphere is warm, serving as a natural gathering spot after rounds or for breakfast meetings. Visitors appreciate the efficient staff and camaraderie that rounds out the Ashwood experience. Walking the course is viable, though the desert climate and terrain encourage sturdy footwear and hydration.
Whether aiming for a competitive round or a spirited practice session, Ashwood Golf Course & Grill captures the essence of desert golf with character, care, and a practical edge few local courses match.
Course Highlights
Ashwood’s design emphasizes tactical play with long rough bordering generous but diversified fairways, coarse sand bunkers that demand precise shot execution, and quick, true greens that respond well to skilled putting. The course's par 65 layout excludes par 5s, highlighting creative play on par 3 and 4 holes. The adjacent Grill is noted for its quality food offerings, creating a complete golf and dining experience distinctive in the Victor Valley region.

I made reservations a 9 hole game for my wife's birthday, it's only our second time playing in about 15 years, trying to get back into it. I was hoping to get there early enough to get some practice time in but it didn't happen even though we had a blast and got some practice time after a great place.Great atmosphere love coming here

Executive course with a lot of flair. If you miss the fairway, you are guaranteed a challenge shot. Several par 4's are reachable for the long hitter. It's not an accident that this course does twice as many rounds per year as any of the surrounding courses. Food is the best of any of the surrounding courses. If you hit into the fairway bunkers, pull your ball and drop laterally. The rocks are bigger than your ball. Several courses I've been to are no longer maintaining fairway bunkers. Best staff in the Victor Valley.

Great course, a bit short only a par 65 I believe, and no par 5’s. The fairways are well taken care of. The lay outs of the holes are fun. The sand bunkers are a bit rough more dirt than sand. Over all I had a great time and would definitely recommend you play it.

Great little gem up here in the high desert. For being recently punched the greens were in great condition. The course was fun yet still challenging with long rough and tons of bunkers. We were able to hold a work meeting for breakfast then enjoy a round after we were wrapped up. Stan and his kitchen staff make a killer breakfast burrito. Only real critique I had was some strange tee placements over areas that were obviously under repair.

Ashwood golf course is one of my go to courses but I won’t be back for awhile after today. After driving a hour and thirty minutes to a 6:30am tee time find out WHEN I arrive there’s a delay till 8:00am. A simple call or email would’ve saved me alot of time. Had to wait a hour and thirty minutes to play just to sit at each hole for 15+ minute. Played 5 holes that took 3+ hours. Very inconvenient. I understand there’s delays due to course maintained but a heads up should be required. Be better Ashwood golf course.
