NMU Golf Course in Marquette offers an accessible yet engaging 18-hole layout suited to all skill levels. This public course features rolling fairways, well-placed bunkers, and receptive greens, delivering a solid challenge in a welcoming northern Michigan setting.

Course Overview

Located in Marquette, Michigan, NMU Golf Course offers an 18-hole challenge that blends practical playability with a gracious landscape shaped by its northern setting. This public course welcomes a wide range of golfers, from beginners eager to find their footing to seasoned players looking for varied shot-making opportunities. The course layout traverses gently rolling terrain, with fairways that test accuracy and greens that reward careful approach shots. Expect a blend of longer holes that invite strategic drives alongside shorter, precision-oriented holes where control over trajectory is crucial.

The golf environment here feels inviting without sacrificing challenge. Fairways are lined with mature trees that influence shot selection and protect the natural contours of each hole. Bunkers are positioned thoughtfully, guarding key landing areas and green edges, presenting clear risks for overly ambitious shots. The course conditions, particularly during the prime summer months, usually deliver healthy turf and receptive putting surfaces, which provide a satisfying response to quality ball striking.

Walking the NMU Golf Course is a refreshing experience, with paths easy to follow and enough variety in elevation and hole design to keep the legs engaged without becoming taxing. Players should consider sturdy, gripped footwear as some tee boxes and fairways have softer soil that can shift slightly after rain. The pace of play tends to be comfortable, aided by a layout that flows naturally from hole to hole.

Facilities at NMU Golf Course include a straightforward clubhouse offering essentials and a friendly atmosphere that reflects its community roots. Staff are known for their welcoming approach, ensuring tee times proceed smoothly and visitors feel at ease whether it's their first visit or a regular return. Affordable rates combined with a course design that balances strategic interest and accessibility make this a smart choice for golfers traveling through the Upper Peninsula.

NMU Golf Course invites players to experience golf in a setting that balances natural beauty with thoughtful design.

Other than the fact that you'll find un-fixed pitch marks all over the greens, and you'll find par-3 tee boxes with absolute no grass, it's a great course with alot of good variety in distance, direction. A good challenge. Beautiful environment.

First off it was $25 (alumni rate) for 9 holes which is half of the country club in town; and could easily get a tee time. Played the back which was in great shape fast greens and fun to golf yet challenging. Highly recommend for cost!

Played 9-holes on the front 9 in the blustery wind 💨 and rain ☔️ with blue skies 🌌 coming out on the 9th hole. The greens were firm and in great shape and the rainwater drained well off the course. $28 for NMU Alumni 🧑‍🎓
