Ram Rock Golf Course

Horseshoe Bay, Texas, USATexas Hill Country

Ram Rock Golf Course presents a rugged Hill Country layout that challenges golfers with rocky terrain, elevation changes, and strategic play. This public resort course offers an engaging test for mid-handicappers and visitors seeking a distinctive Texas golf experience.

Course Overview

Ram Rock Golf Course offers an 18-hole challenge set in the rugged Hill Country terrain of Horseshoe Bay, Texas. This public resort course blends natural rock formations and rolling fairways to create an experience that tests both strategy and shot-making. The layout weaves through rocky outcrops, shallow creeks, and native grasses, encouraging golfers to balance risk and reward on every hole. While its design favors players who enjoy precision over pure power, the course remains approachable for mid-handicappers seeking an engaging round amid unique scenery.

The par-72 layout measures just over 6,600 yards from the back tees, with multiple tee boxes providing options for players with varying abilities. Elevation changes add an additional dimension, demanding thoughtful club selection and course management. Rock features provide more than just visual drama; they influence angles and margins, often narrowing landing areas and framing greens with natural obstacles. Though not a conventional parkland or links-style course, Ram Rock’s terrain-driven design offers a blend of rugged beauty and strategic interest.

Golfers should prepare for a course conditioned by its environment. The frequently sun-exposed fairways and greens call for creativity around challenges posed by firm turf and intricate putting surfaces. The natural contours of the greens can be complex, requiring a steady read to navigate effectively. Walking the course is doable, but the terrain includes slopes and occasional elevation shifts where sturdy footwear is advisable.

The on-site clubhouse supports the golf experience with rental clubs, practice facilities, and a pro shop stocked with essentials. As a resort venue, it caters to visitors looking to combine golf with the broad range of recreational amenities in Horseshoe Bay, yet it retains an intimate atmosphere uncommon among larger resorts.

While Ram Rock offers moments of striking natural character well worth exploring, players interested in peak course conditions should inquire ahead about ongoing maintenance schedules. The course rewards thoughtful play and stands as a distinctive Hill Country golf destination for those ready to engage fully with the landscape’s challenges and charm.

Course Highlights

Ram Rock stands out for its integration with natural rock formations and undulating terrain that shapes a strategic challenge. Ram Rock is a spectacular, picturesque course. Looks like the service has improved dramatically since some of the previous comments I’ve had nothing but excellent experiences with the staff, and the course is challenging, frustrating, and rewarding. 10/10 Ram rock gets it right

Beautiful layout. Good condition. One word of warning, the slope is over 30 even from the Executive tees🙂

Pace of Play was okay for resort golf, but honestly thought with the prices they have you paying greens would be in better condition. Putting is like being on the moon with the amount of craters and divots. Albeit not 100% on just the course crew to repair, that’s on the idiot golfers who don’t know what a divot is or how to fix it, but every single green is like Rocky Mountain road and the par 3’s don’t even get me started. Slick rock wasn’t too much better either…

I very rarely post a review, but I felt compelled after my experience at Ram Rock. Friendly staff, nice layout, challenging course. However, charging $225 and not giving your customer the heads up that the greens are both aerated and in terrible condition ruined the experience. There should have been a discount on the round, or at the very least, letting me know prior to teeing off. Neither the starter, the pro, or the staff gave any warning. To drive an hour and 30 minutes, and pay $225 to play greens that are worse than a public course in their toughest moment was a hard pill to swallow. I won't be going back and I am reconsidering playing in Horseshoe Bay altogether if they have no regard for basic decency in providing a great golf experience.

Imagine paying $250 for a round of golf and you walk across a bridge so unstable that it tips and you fall into the swamp beneath you halfway through the round. The greens are that of a Section 8 public course and seltzers are $14/each. Save your money and play somewhere else.
