Cove Cay Golf Club
Cove Cay Golf Club in Clearwater, Florida, offers an 18-hole public course defined by its waterfront layout and strategically placed hazards. This approachable yet thoughtful design challenges players to navigate water and sand with precision, delivering a rewarding round in a warm coastal setting.
Course Overview
Cove Cay Golf Club, located just off Clearwater's bustling coast, offers an 18-hole golf experience grounded in water-centric challenges and subtropical landscapes. This public course stretches across gently rolling terrain punctuated by lagoons, water hazards, and pockets of native vegetation that frame each hole with a distinct personality. While not a traditional links or mountain-style layout, Cove Cay embraces its waterfront setting, with water coming into play on multiple holes, demanding both strategic shot-making and course management.
The course reveals itself in a rhythm that suits players of varying skill levels, though water hazards and relatively small greens keep concentration high and reward accuracy. The greens often require a delicate touch — their size and subtle contours can test putting consistency but remain accessible for mid-handicap players. Fairways typically offer generous landing zones, allowing those with distance to capitalize, but errant shots toward the many bunkers and waterways will be duly penalized.
Cove Cay's surroundings evoke a leisurely Florida golf day, with views toward adjacent marinas and the gulf’s glints just beyond the horizon. Humidity and occasional coastal breezes add a sensory layer, encouraging thoughtful club selection throughout the round. After golf, the on-site restaurant presents a notable dining option, where hospitality complements the round and family-friendly atmosphere.
Players planning a visit should prepare for warm weather conditions and consider walking if comfortable, though cart access is readily available. The course maintains a steady pace of play, helped by attentive staff and marshals who keep groups moving efficiently. Pricing positions Cove Cay as a solid value within the Clearwater area, with a blend of challenge and enjoyment suited for recreational golfers seeking an aquatic-infused layout without the intimidation of championship tournament conditions.
For golfers visiting Clearwater, Cove Cay Golf Club represents a relaxed but engaging venue to enjoy Florida golf where water’s presence shapes both the landscape and the strategy. It’s not a pristine gem in every corner, but it delivers a genuine golf outing framed by local charm and a steady pace that keeps the focus on playability and fun.
Course Highlights
The course integrates multiple holes where water hazards play a critical role, effectively shaping strategy and shot selection. The course’s proximity to Clearwater’s waterfront adds both a visual appeal and a breezy element influencing play.

Fred and Ray are Excellent Chefs at Cove Cay Golf Restaurant and Grill. They create the most delicious lunch specials and menu items. BLT Wrap was delicious and our Grandson was happy to try the sweet potato fries. We chose to eat outside at the water where Lily was a very attentive Greeter and Server. We love them all as we enjoy their welcoming attitudes.

Not a bad course not great either, wife and I were down from Canada for spring training we both wanted to play on the water. There is not much on the water as I thought. Overall not a bad course but it is nothing special. I haven’t played others in the area so I have nothing to compare to. Greens are small with yes lots of water and sand. Didn’t bother me but drove my wife nuts

This place is terrible! Condition is bad fairways greens and tee boxes! Starter is rude and the Marshall was ridiculous. They are over priced for the course and there were twosomes everywhere. I have added some photos. This is what the majority of the course looks like right now.

We have not played here is 15 years and were shocked....... At how terrific it is! Great course, lots of challenges. The staff is really awesome, they have a starter that knows how to run a course, we saw course rangers several times and the cart girls were very prompt. The pace of play was excellent, we rarely saw the groups in front of behind, thank you rangers. The fairways are great but the greens are a mixed bag of slow and fast. It's a little more $$ than others but overall a great value. We will be returning.

I tried this course for the first time and thought the course was okay, the sand was filled with water for the most part. I left my rangefinder on my cart and called the next day… told them my cart number and everything and the guy Christian on the phone was useless, I had to call him multiple times before he sent someone to check, that cart that was out on the course. I have yet to be able to get ahold of the head pro or asst pro. I called today and another guy answered and he checked and didn’t find it. It’s very sad to not be able to get in touch with anyone in management here and now I no longer have a range finder unfortunately.

Fun course. Some scenic views of bay. Might be a challenge for any inconsistent golfers. But would recommend you play it at least once if you live in the area!
