Clearwater Country Club

Clearwater, Florida, USATampa Bay Area

Clearwater Country Club in Florida features an 18-hole parkland course that tests accuracy over length with strategic water hazards and well-kept greens. Ideal for players of varying skill levels, its compact layout and welcoming atmosphere make it a standout golf destination in the Tampa Bay area.

Course Overview

Clearwater Country Club offers a compelling golf experience in the heart of Clearwater, Florida. This 18-hole public course provides a thoughtfully compact layout that challenges precision over length, making it appealing to a broad spectrum of golfers. While not the longest at approximately 6,200 yards from the back tees, its strategic design demands careful shot placement and measured club selection. Water hazards thread through several holes, prompting moments of tactical decision-making rather than power-driven assaults.

The course's overall setting is defined by a parkland style, with well-manicured fairways framed by mature trees and subtle elevation changes that add interest rather than imposing steep climbs. Its flat terrain creates an approachable environment for walkers, encouraging players to enjoy a leisurely stroll throughout the round. Walkers are advised to wear comfortable shoes suitable for Florida’s warm climate and variable ground conditions.

Maintenance is a clear priority at Clearwater Country Club. Fairways and greens are routinely kept in excellent condition, featuring smooth, true-rolling greens that reward precise putting. Bunkers are clean and dressed, presenting authentic challenges without unnecessary penalty. Several tees and greens sit in close proximity, a unique architectural feature requiring attentiveness and safety precautions, which is managed effectively with fencing and course staff.

Amenities include a welcoming clubhouse with friendly service, a pro shop stocked with essentials, and a well-regarded bar that provides a pleasant spot to unwind post-round. Despite occasional crowding on busy days, many find the pace of play reasonable, especially if booking earlier tee times.

The course offers an enjoyable balance of fun and challenge, suiting intermediate players seeking a test of accuracy as well as advanced golfers aiming to sharpen their short game and course management. Clearwater Country Club delivers a distinctive Florida golf outing that respects the game’s tradition while providing a modern, accessible venue for locals and visitors alike.

Course Highlights

I was pleasantly surprised by Clearwater Country Club! Compared to other public golf courses in Tampa Bay, this one truly stands out as the best. The course is well-maintained, the staff is friendly, and the grass is in excellent condition. I also appreciated that the houses were set back from the greens, giving a more open feel. Even on a Sunday, it wasn’t overbooked, which made for a relaxed game. Plus, the price is very reasonable. While it’s a bit flat, the overall experience more than makes up for it. If you're looking for a great round of golf in the area, this course is definitely worth a visit!

Any golf course good enough for Thee JOHN DALY is far too classy for us!!! We had a great day of golf here, #1 FUN, and we only played the front nine... twice. We are looking forward to our next visit. All the staff was excellent and bar staff offered prompt service and extra ice at the turn. Greens were true and skies stayed blue even as lightning threatened nearby.

The words "Country Club" are a BIG STRECH" here as this golf course is a DUMP! Fairways are in poor condition with lots of sand patches, greens are shaggy and uneven, there are no signs for direction to the next tee boxes so it's easy to get confused and make a wrong turn, there was even a truck parked on the grass in the area of play! On top of all that the bar tender guy inside the clubhouse was super RUDE. Good thing it wasn't expensive to play here. The place is really run-down. I will never go back and they should change the name to Clearwater Golf Course because it would hardly be considered a country club! That is misleading people!!

Course was in decent shape overall, greens and bunkers were nice. Was visiting the area so I knew I'd have to get rental clubs, asked to use just one set for my son and I and was told "policy says you both have to rent one set each" which is a huge rip off considering it's $45 for bargain bin Wilson clubs. A bit overbooked in my opinion.

Just ok experience....greens are in good shape. Carts are new and facilities seem nice. Course was overbooked and waited a lot. Confusing layout and holes are on top of each other. Worst part is price.....$50 in summer in afternoon....way better places around for less.

🏌️‍♂️ Course Review: Clearwater Country Club 🌟 Hey everyone, just wrapped up a round at the renowned Clearwater Country Club, a course that boasts a member list including the likes of John Daly! Here’s my take: 🔹 Layout Quirks: The course’s layout is one of a kind, with some holes so closely packed that large metal fences separate tees and greens for safety. This feature was definitely appreciated, especially when an errant approach shot from the group behind me nearly turned my round into a close call! 🔹 Condition: The course condition was top-notch. The greens rolled true and were well-maintained, offering a fair speed - not too fast but far from slow. The fairways were in good shape, and although the rough was a bit on the thinner side, it still provided enough of a test. 🔹 Value for Money: In terms of value, Clearwater Country Club hits the sweet spot. For what you pay, the quality and experience you get are more than worth it. It’s a fantastic deal for golfers looking for a quality round without breaking the bank. 🔹 Walkability: Many golfers choose to walk this course due to its compact nature. Not only does this add to the enjoyment of your round, but it’s also a nice little saving on cart fees. Perfect for those who enjoy a leisurely stroll between shots. 🔹 Playability: At 6200 yards from the tips, it’s not the longest course, but it’s no walk in the park either. Strategic water hazards make you rethink pulling out the driver on several holes, adding a nice tactical layer to the game. 🔹 Overall Impression: Clearwater Country Club is a course that balances challenge with fun. It’s ideal for golfers who value precision and enjoy a strategic game. And with the course being so compact, it’s a great place to enjoy a walk and soak in the surroundings.
