This public resort balances strategic play with breathtaking scenery, making it ideal for enthusiasts seeking a well-maintained, thoughtfully designed golf experience.

Course Overview

Rainmakers Resort and Club in Alto, New Mexico, offers a striking 18-hole golf experience set against the dramatic backdrop of the southwestern mountains. This public resort course presents a captivating blend of natural desert terrain and lush irrigation that highlights its thoughtful design and meticulous maintenance. The layout rewards precision, with fairways weaving through rugged rock formations and challenging elevation changes that demand careful club selection and shot control.

Though not a links or parkland style, Rainmakers leans into its unique high-desert environment with open vistas and natural hazards that feel both rugged and elegant. The course tests a range of skills, with tight tee shots framing greens protected by strategic bunkering and contoured surfaces that catch even modest miscalculations. It holds appeal for low handicaps seeking a challenge, yet offers multiple tees to accommodate a wide scope of golfers wanting to enjoy the views without relentless difficulty.

Visiting golfers will find well-kept fairways and impeccable greens that reflect the staff’s dedication to course conditioning. The walking routes, while rewarding scenic engagement, require solid footwear due to varied terrain and distance between holes. For those preferring a ride, carts are available, though the course encourages walkers to absorb the dry mountain air and panoramic scenery.

The clubhouse stands as a sophisticated hub where culinary offerings and friendly service create a welcome after the round. The pro shop presents a well-curated selection of apparel and equipment, ensuring any on-course needs are met.

This resort’s distinct desert personality and mountain vistas make it a memorable destination for golf travelers seeking a blend of natural beauty and competitive play. Whether relishing a crisp morning round or an afternoon tee time under sweeping New Mexico skies, Rainmakers delivers a refined golf adventure away from ordinary fairways and greens.

Course Highlights

Rainmakers features distinctive desert landscape routing that integrates natural rock outcroppings and arroyos into play. Several holes frame expansive mountain panoramas, including elevated tees that challenge long hitters with gusty winds. The course’s scrupulous maintenance ensures fair but firm greens, while the clubhouse complements the golfing experience with high-quality dining and attentive staff. Friendly hospitality and a focus on visitor comfort stand out as essential to its appeal.

Likely one of the most difficult courses I have ever played. This course is every bit as beautiful as it is challenging. You really need to be on your best game here, a bad tee shot can ruin your hole. Each hole, is named, and has so much individual character. I lost a lot of balls out there. Many chances to enjoy the local wildlife and so many great mountain views. Pro shop is well stocked with everything you need and apparel. Staff is super! The clubhouse is beautiful and really embodies the atmosphere of this part of New Mexico. Chef curated menu offers so many great dishes. Many great meals out here.

I’ve been hearing about this course for five years and we finally got to play the other day. Angela, inside the pro shop could not have been nicer and more accommodating to our group. 😊 She even said we don’t have many on the course this morning so if there’s anything you guys need or want on the course, just call me and I’ll bring it out to you, we’ve had that kind of service at smaller courses, but it was quite amazing to have that offered to us there. Absolutely stunning views, perfectly maintained course, the fairways and greens were absolute perfection. The greens did not have one blemish on any of them in 18 holes. They do have the white stakes short distance from the tee boxes so you do have to do a lot of walking with multiple clubs in the fairways. Make sure you have comfortable shoes on. The members on the course were VERY friendly!! 😊

I'll happily review it again and again. Excellent food from a fantastic chef. The service is top-notch. The atmosphere is stunning. Always worth it to dine here. Although the regular menu is superb, I highly recommend the specialty menu. They provide the much sought after items that you cannot find elsewhere in Ruidoso. A very welcome respite! Their homemade Gelato are my favorite. Yuzu and Lavendar Pomegranate are my favs!

It's a super chic, luxury place. We were there for having a dinner for family reunion. The food was extremely good. It was the case when I have no idea how do they do it, so tender and balanced it was. The bar was surprisingly not expensive. Of course service is super good. The hallway has exhibitions worth museum. They represent the past of this land. And of course the stunning beauty of the outside can't bypass anyone.
