Pagosa Springs Golf Club

Pagosa Springs, Colorado, USASouthwestern Colorado

Set against the rugged landscapes of southwestern Colorado, Pagosa Springs Golf Club offers 27 holes of mountain and parkland golf that blend strategic elevation with open fairways. This public course challenges players with shifting terrain and striking scenery, making it a notable stop for visitors seeking an authentic mountain golf experience.

Course Overview

Pagosa Springs Golf Club offers a unique mountain golf experience with its 27 holes spread across varied terrain in southwestern Colorado. Designed to challenge golfers while providing a scenic escape, this public course presents a mix of parkland and mountain-style layouts that emphasize elevation changes and wide fairways. Amidst expansive landscapes dominated by native piñon pine and juniper, players encounter holes that test strategic shot-making against the backdrop of rugged, high-desert terrain.

The course is divided into three 9-hole loops, allowing for flexible play options and diverse routing. Elevation shifts create both demanding uphill approach shots and rewarding downhill drives, encouraging players to think carefully about club selection and wind conditions. While the natural setting offers breathtaking views, the layout remains relatively open, making fairway accuracy a priority but still offering ample forgiveness for higher handicaps.

The overall playability caters to a broad range of golfers, from casual visitors seeking an outdoor adventure to those looking for a solid test of fundamentals. The course’s softer fairways due to seasonal irrigation make recovery shots more accessible, though some greens show signs of wear which can affect putting surfaces. This becomes part of the course’s character, demanding adaptability and careful reading.

Amenities include a pro shop staffed by knowledgeable professionals and golf cart rentals. Walking the course is generally permitted but can be strenuous given the elevation changes and rugged paths, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The main clubhouse provides a comfortable spot to relax before or after play, with views overlooking the course.

For those planning a visit, early tee times are advised to avoid afternoon winds that commonly sweep through the valley. Despite some inconsistencies in course conditioning during certain seasons, Pagosa Springs Golf Club remains a noteworthy destination for its striking location and straightforward mountain golf experience. Players should prepare for variable conditions and embrace the opportunity to navigate a course shaped more by nature than polished refinement.

Course Highlights

The course integrates natural elevation changes across its three 9-hole loops, combining wide fairways with rugged mountain vistas. Players will encounter holes that run uphill and downhill, requiring careful club selection and attention to prevailing winds. The landscape’s native piñon pine and juniper provide a distinctive Southwestern character. While some greens experience seasonal wear, the course offers rewarding shot opportunities especially on elevated tees and undulating fairways.

As of 7/3/2025 the course is in great shape. There are some wet spots in the fairways and some tee boxes are beat up, but overall the course is in good condition. Fairways are soft and the greens are pretty smooth. The layout is awesome. Some cool elevated tee shots and challenging holes. The price is too high for the inconsistency in the course but it’s worth paying while on vacation for the great views. The no cancellation policy is brutal. If someone in your booking gets sick, you can’t get a refund even 2 weeks out.

IN TERRIBLE SHAPE, BUT AT LEAST ITS EXPENSIVE I played here a couple of weeks ago, and the course was in terrible shape. Many of the greens are burnt out, but don't worry, the rough around most of the tee boxes get plenty of water and look good. You wouldn't guess this based on the astronomical prices - $92 for 18 holes, $73 for 9 holes... And these are the cheaper prices you get when booking online. If you call or book in person, you pay even more. Driving range is also in terrible shape, it looks like you will only be able to hit off of mats again for the second straight year. They will still charge you $17 for a large bucket of balls though, or possibly even more. Pagosa Springs Golf Club sure has a lot of nerve charging so much, for such a bad product. For comparison sake, I played at Sandia Golf Club (NM) the week prior for the same price. The course was immaculate, and the range access was included. Hillcrest Golf Club (Durango) is in much better shape, cheaper, and friendlier. Some of the staff are friendly (like Jim in the pro shop), but most of the folks who work here act like you are bothering them. If you are a tourist and have to play here, I get it... but I would still encourage you to look elsewhere. For locals, its a real drag that this is our local course. I have played at many courses, and even worked at one. Pagosa's course is by far the worst ran course I've experienced. - can't walk without a membership - can't tee off before 8 am - can't tee off after 5 pm - driving range closes promptly at 5 pm (sometimes sooner) even on the longest day of the year - 27 holes, which often look empty, yet you always seem to be backed up - no water coolers ('Covid took them away') - no cart person - etc... Sadly this is just another Pagosa business that will take your business for granted. They know that they are the only game in town, and couldn't care less about you, so long as you just give them your money.

Staff was great, friendly. Course was the worst I’ve ever seen it. Been playing it every summer for over 20 years and was looking forward to playing it again. Big disappointment! Greens are terrible, course overall is not in good shape. Way too expensive for the product they are offering.

The people were friendly and respectful. They were waiting and the top of the hill with our golf carts for our tee time. I feel they were a little overpriced compared to other courses. the Greens and fairways were not in the best shape, but it could be due to the season. It's a beautiful course and the experience and staff made up for that.

Greens are half dead as well as the fairways and driving range closed whenever they feel like it I guess... went out to hit balls twice this week on vacation in mid afternoon only to find out it was closed. Sounds like the owner either doesn't care or doesn't have the $$ to take care of it properly and not motivated to serve the local golfers.. Whatever the reason, it's not worth $100 per round.

Great 27-hole course. In early August, it was in fantastic shape!! Bravo to the staff. Go play!! 7/2023: They're expanding the deck and have added a BBQ menu. 6/2024: The new deck is great. Huge views! The BBQ is excellent, and they ship in aged post-oak to smoke. 6/2025: The greens on Ponderosa are not good. Pinion and Meadows are great!
