Botetourt Golf & Swim Club offers an inviting 18-hole course set among rolling Virginia hills, blending approachable play with thoughtful design. The course’s well-kept fairways and greens, combined with amenities like a family-friendly pool, create a balanced golf experience for a range of skill levels.

Course Overview

Botetourt Golf & Swim Club in Troutville, Virginia offers a distinctly welcoming environment that balances classic golf challenge with family-friendly amenities. This 18-hole layout unfolds across gently rolling terrain, presenting a course that rewards thoughtful strategy amid natural beauty. The experience here is shaped by the course’s manageable length paired with subtle elevation changes and well-maintained greens that invite golfers of varying skill levels to find their rhythm.

The layout demands more than distance alone, as bunkers and water hazards come into play at critical moments, inviting careful shot placement rather than brute force. The back nine opens up with broader fairways, allowing for a steadier pace of play, while the front nine remains more intimate, framed by mature trees that encourage precision. Golfers will appreciate a setting where every hole offers a fresh perspective on shot-making without overwhelming complexity.

On days when the wind stirs, players feel the course’s character shift, adding a layer of atmospheric challenge that tests tempo and control. Those who enjoy pace and flow will find the course thoughtfully maintained, with smooth greens and consistent conditions reflecting the ground crew’s steady attention. While the yardage may not intimidate long hitters, the design compels a variety of approaches that enhance the overall engagement.

Beyond the golf, Botetourt’s clubhouse facilities support a relaxed and convenient visit. The pool area has become a local favorite for families, providing a refreshing balance to on-course activity. The pro shop and snack bar offer refreshments and essentials, rounding out the experience with practical touches important for a day spent outdoors.

Planning a visit here means preparing for walking given the course’s layout and friendly terrain, and bringing gear suited to weather changes that can influence play. Single players may find weekend tee times in demand, reflecting the club’s popularity. Overall, Botetourt Golf & Swim Club stands as a well-maintained, approachable 18-hole course with character and community spirit woven through every round.

Course Highlights

First time playing this year. Very windy today but good time was had by all. Really good hamburgers and fries fresh and hot off the grill. Course was in good shape.

2025: New management made everything better! Would highly recommend now. 2022: The course is in great shape, no doubt about that. However, it’s mismanaged. I like to golf as a single, as I have a family that I like to plan around. I called Thursday evening wanting to make a tee time for Saturday. I was told they do not make tee times for singles. That’s understandable. But, I was told by the pro shop to come out between 8:15-9:00am, as there was a gap and they would get me out. I called again last night, Friday night, to be sure that there was the gap still open. I was told it was. I come out this morning, got here at 8:20a, and the pro shop acted like they didn’t know who I talked to. The course was packed. The back 9 is wide open. I asked to play the back, and I was told, “No, because it’s the weekend.” Now, I am forced to play with a group behind a packed course, 5-7 minutes between shots. Tee times are too close together, and they don’t appreciate the single players. Sorry, it’s a beautiful course, I love the layout and the condition. However, I would not recommended.

Every hole is unique; the conditions are always good; and vistas of the distant mountains are unbelievable.

Went there to the pool today for the 4th. Went last week as well . The staff has shown nothing but courtesy and hospitality. It's a ton of fun for the kids and relaxing for us parents. Plenty of parking on both sides of the pool . Decently priced and moderate options from the snack bar. They had the boom box going and even a fun little competition.

Great course, even for mid-October. Grounds keepers were still taking care of the greens and keeping up maintenance on the course. Amazing views at just about every hole. Will definitely be back!
