Ashley Plantation Country Club

Daleville, Virginia, USASouthwest Virginia

Ashley Plantation Country Club challenges golfers with rolling hills, a distinctive par 6, and a strategic island green. Its open fairways and varied elevation provide a memorable playing experience for a broad spectrum of golf abilities in Southwest Virginia.

Course Overview

Ashley Plantation Country Club presents an 18-hole challenge wrapped in the rolling hills and valleys of southwestern Virginia. This public course offers a blend of natural elevation changes and open, inviting fairways that capture both scenic beauty and demanding play. Stretching over 7,100 yards from the back tees and featuring a par of 72, Ashley Plantation caters to golfers seeking variety and adventure. The layout’s distinctive design employs the region’s elevation to craft holes that test distance, precision, and strategy. Notably, the course includes a rare 715-yard par 6 that beckons players to engage in a true power game, alongside an island green on the 10th hole that requires focused shotmaking well before the turn.

The terrain shifts between gently sloping fairways and tighter corridors framed by mature trees, while broad greens challenge putting with subtle breaks and consistent speed similar to championship setups. The course’s elevation offers occasional scenic vistas of mountain ridges beyond the fairways, adding visual interest without distracting from the play. Wind can become a factor here, especially on exposed holes, testing a golfer’s shot selection and tempo.

Ashley Plantation’s public access and reasonable rates make it approachable for a broad range of players, though its firmness and speed may lean toward rewarding those with intermediate to low handicaps. Tee options provide flexibility, allowing novices to enjoy manageable distances while offering ample challenge for competitive golfers.

Practical aspects enhance the experience: the maintenance level is generally solid with well-kept greens and fairways, and the course enjoys a relaxed pace that encourages thoughtful play over hurried rounds. While amenities remain straightforward without extensive resort features, the clubhouse provides a welcoming atmosphere, with friendly staff supporting a smooth round.

Those planning a visit should prepare for some walking on uneven terrain and variable wind conditions, particularly in the afternoon. A measured approach often pays dividends at Ashley Plantation, where the course invites players to embrace both the physical landscape and its strategic subtleties.

Course Highlights

Ashley Plantation is distinguished by its 715-yard par 6 and the island green on hole 10, which demands precise approach shots. The course skillfully exploits natural elevation, offering strategic risk-reward opportunities and panoramic views of the surrounding mountain landscape. Its openness often results in wind challenges, adding a tactical layer to club selection and shot execution.

Absolutely stunning course. Nice rolling green hills and valleys, with picturestic mountains in the background. They have a number of holes they use the elevation well. Tee box up very high with the green way down in a valley. They even have a 715yd par 6 hole. Staff was super nice, and we didn't see another soul in sight. However, the greens were set up like Bethpage for the US open. They were like putting on ice. $57 on a Saturday to play this course is well worth it. It's well maintained and quite enjoyable.

Great Shape tough conditions due to 30 to 40 mph wind gusts.

Not sure what to make of this course. The low price should have tipped me off. A timid starter, invisible ranger and no bev cart were all frustrating. There are a lot of good holes out there, but the shaggy fairways, shabby tees (including one with a range mat) and sad bunkers take away from the experience. I heard all about losing holes to bankruptcy or safety concerns and rerouting with two double back holes, and it just left me scratching my head. I think there might be potential at AP, but it may be a ways off.

The staff are professional and friendly and aside from the bunkers being more like a dirt road the course is really nice for the price. The layout is different from most courses in the area, the fairways are in good shape but difficult to stay on if your tee shot is in the wrong spot. The greens are fast enough and relatively easy. The driving range mats are terrible so if the grass tees are closed then hopefully you have a brush to scrape the plastic off your club heads, plus the range balls need to be replaced. Updated review; Since the above review I have joined here, mostly due to it being right down the road from my house, but also because I like the course and mostly because of how awesome the staff treats everyone, not just members. I play all the local courses and nobody treats people as well as the staff at Ashley. In the last 4 years, Mark, who is the course super, has done a tremendous job in bringing this course back to being one of the nicest courses in the valley and surrounding areas. The fairways were really healthy before last summer's awful drought and I expect they will be in great shape this summer as they are already coming back nicely. The greens are smooth and fast, especially after they mow and roll them! Most of the bunkers are in much better shape but some of the fairway bunkers may require a "rake n play" rule. If you're looking for lessons or a fitting Josh Vaughan is the man! He's got a positive attitude, knows how to make you feel comfortable and seems genuinely interested in making everyone enjoy playing the game. Renee and the restaurant staff are also doing an amazing job with great prices on cold beer and tasty foods!

Best course around. Josh is an amazing pro with a great personality. The whole staff is wonderful. Renee in the bar is the highlight. Kyle loves to hear "Go Blue". Say it to him anytime you see him there.

Beautifully kept course including a par 6. Sometimes the wind is a bit of a pain but fairways are primarily pretty open. I’ve came out here 2 times to play in the last month and it’s been a pleasurable relaxed playing pace vs some of the other busier similarly priced courses in the area. Hole #10 is particularly challenging as an island green and is before the turn. Would highly recommend.
