Lawton Municipal Golf Course

Lawton, Oklahoma, USASouthwest Oklahoma

Lawton Municipal Golf Course is a public 18-hole parkland layout offering an approachable and practical golf experience amid southwestern Oklahoma’s natural terrain. The course features improved greens, inviting fairways, and a pace of play suited for casual rounds and developing players alike.

Course Overview

Lawton Municipal Golf Course offers an accessible 18-hole layout set against the unique backdrop of southwestern Oklahoma’s terrain. As a public course located on SW 11th Street in Lawton, it provides an affordable and straightforward golfing experience for players of various skill levels. The course features a parkland style with wide fairways that allow for an open approach, but subtle undulations and natural ground irregularities remind golfers to stay alert with their shot selection. Greens have improved significantly in recent seasons, presenting smooth putting surfaces that reward creativity and precise touch.

Though not a traditional championship venue, Lawton Municipal’s charm lies in its welcoming environment and practicality. The landscape includes pockets of native grasses and rough, giving a nod to the region’s natural setting while challenging accuracy off the tee. Some players note uneven lies caused by small depressions along the fairways, requiring thoughtful shot planning and adding distinctive character to the routing.

Golfers visiting the course will find an approachable test of golf with a mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s that encourage strategic thinking without overwhelming the amateur player. The pace of play tends to be quick, making it suitable for those seeking a solid round within a manageable timeframe. Lawton Municipal supports walking, although players might want to wear sturdy shoes as the terrain features slight elevation changes and firm turf.

The clubhouse, located nearby from the main course area due to its proximity to the municipal airport, offers basic amenities and a friendly atmosphere. While golf carts are available by request, many players prefer to walk or use push carts, further connecting with the rhythm of the course.

For those seeking a community-focused venue with steady green conditions and a genuine local feel, Lawton Municipal delivers a practical, engaging round without pretension. It’s a reliable option for players looking to sharpen their game or enjoy casual competition in central Oklahoma’s climate and open-air landscape.

Course Highlights

Lawton Municipal is recognized for its straightforward parkland layout with gentle rolling terrain and improved, receptive greens. Pros are that driving range is Quick and easy to access and uncrowded. Cons are that you have to drive over to the clubhouse on the other side of the airport to get tokens for the vending machine…

This might actually be the worst golf course in the history of the world. $35 for this is an absolute joke. the green fees should be about $6, max. The whole place feels like you’re playing golf on Mars. If NASA ever needs a backup location for a Mars rover test, Lawton Municipal got them covered. The guy at the desk is hands down the worst. Feels like he’s running some kind of scam operation on this Mars golf planet. If you’re looking for a course where you can hit rocks off a parking lot and experience customer service that makes you question humanity, this is the place for you. Otherwise, save your $35. Or go spend it on, I don’t know, literally anything else. (The Fort Sill golf course 15 minutes away has $40 green fees and is a one thousand times better course.)

The Greens here have gotten much better. However, the fairways are better but still a little rough. I lost four golf balls in the fairway. My friends and I saw the ball land in the fairway and bounced in the fairway. However, it disappeared due to holes and such along the fairways 😒 Got my first Birdie though lol
