Course Overview

Fort Sill Golf Course, situated just off Quinette Road in Lawton, Oklahoma, offers a genuine military course experience marked by both challenge and accessibility. This 18-hole, par-72 layout combines practicality with natural elements, creating a setting that is approachable for golfers across various skill levels while still demanding thoughtful strategy on its fairways and greens. The course’s setting reflects the region’s landscape, with gently rolling terrain that avoids extreme elevation changes but occasionally tests your accuracy with well-placed bunkers and undulating greens.

Greens at Fort Sill are noted for their smooth, fast surfaces, rewarding precise putting and thoughtful club selection. The fairways are generally well-maintained, though some areas show the wear typical of a heavily trafficked course serving both military personnel and the local community. The course’s layout encourages a classic golfing rhythm, where long drives are balanced by mid-range iron play and subtle approaches. Elevated tees offer clear sightlines, while certain holes require navigating natural wind patterns that can influence shot shape and distance.

As a military-owned public facility, Fort Sill Golf Course balances tradition and function. The practice area is inviting, allowing players to warm up efficiently before their round, while the clubhouse provides practical amenities that serve players well, including a pro shop and a dining area that caters to both casual and post-round dining.

Walkers will find the terrain manageable, although some cart paths show signs of age; carts are available but walking is encouraged for those ready to immerse themselves fully in the game. The course’s proximity to central Lawton means it’s a convenient option for locals and visitors alike seeking a solid round without the fanfare often found at private clubs.

Fort Sill invites players to engage with golf in an honest, straightforward environment where the natural Oklahoma wind and the condition of the course itself present a fair but lively test. Whether honing skills or seeking a leisurely round, this course offers a dependable, thoughtfully designed layout with steady playability and a sense of place that reflects its military heritage.

Course Highlights

Fast greens plenty of bends, very well kept. Only issue is I got pared with 4 others. 3 adults and 1 youth which I have no problem with but slowed pace of play way down. Carts seem to be really old some brakes don’t work as they should. Definitely be mindful of some holes for there are high traffic roads and housing by some holes.

Having spent almost 20 years of my life on and around a golf course. This one is far from a 5 star, and I'm stretching the 4 stars here. Considering the condition of the course...it is Oklahoma 🤔 They could make a few small changes here, and this place would be a 3.5 to 4 really. The limited inventory, cart paths that have needed help for probably 10 years, etc. However, it's less than two miles from our home, and we have a great time here.

July 4 - Easy to get the visitor pass. Pro shop and restaurant are well run. Practice area is nice. Course was overall in very nice shape. The only down side was 4 walkers were allowed to jump in on 10 as we finished up 9 and backed everyone up. The group was apparently trying to qualify for a tour card or betting big because they were lining up putts for days and having high level discussions on each tee box.
