The Lodge Golf Course

Cloudcroft, New Mexico, USASouthwest New Mexico

The Lodge Golf Course in Cloudcroft, NM offers a scenic nine-hole mountain golf experience perfect for all skill levels. Set amid pine forests with abundant wildlife and elevation shifts, it invites players to engage with a unique, approachable layout that doubles as 18 holes with two tee sets.

Course Overview

Set against the elevated backdrop of Cloudcroft, New Mexico, The Lodge Golf Course offers a blend of natural beauty and approachable golf across its nine holes. This public course commands attention not with length but with character, presenting a scenic experience framed by forested hills and open fairways that test precision more than power. Players will find themselves immersed in an environment where the pine-scented air complements the challenge of navigating gently rolling terrain, and wildlife sightings, including elk and deer, add a quietly surreal dimension to each round.

The course layout favors strategic shot-making over brute strength, making it welcoming for beginners and satisfying for golfers seeking a serene yet engaging excursion. With tee options that allow playing the nine holes twice from two different sets of tees, it effectively doubles as an 18-hole experience without ever feeling repetitive. Elevation changes offer subtle challenges, while well-placed bunkers and moderately contoured greens demand careful thought on approach shots and putting.

While the course requires walking due to cart path-only restrictions, sturdy golf shoes are advisable because of the altitude and occasional uphill walks. The presence of a convenient restroom facility between holes four and five ensures comfort mid-round. Golfers should plan tee times with advance phone reservations, as online bookings sometimes conflict with scheduled events.

A welcoming pro shop staffed by knowledgeable personnel enhances the visit, offering a friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere. The courseโ€™s straightforward charm is amplified by the panoramic views, especially during autumn when the foliage bursts into vibrant colors. Whether it is a casual outing or a test of skill in crisp mountain air, The Lodge Golf Course stands out as a distinctive mountain course that invites every player to embrace the landscapeโ€™s honest challenges and quiet rewards.

For those looking to combine golf with a visit to a historic mountain town rich with shops and taverns, this course is a fitting centerpiece for an active day outdoors that balances leisure and focus in equal measure.

Course Highlights

Characterized by its mountain setting and pine forest backdrop, The Lodge features two sets of tees for nine holes allowing an effective 18-hole round. Wildlife sightings such as elk and deer are common, adding an immersive nature experience. The course balances approachable challenges with elevation changes and strategic bunker placements, complemented by scenic views of the Cloudcroft area.

The course is absolutely gorgeous this time of year; especially with the elk that are literally within 10-20 yards from you. There is a disconnect between the online and clubhouse when it comes to setting tee times though. We showed up at 10am for our tee time, set online, and there was a tournament; had to wait until 1:15-1:30pm to play. It's best to call in your tee time.

Wonderful!! Eclectic, stunning and challenging!! ROSE is a boss!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š Her course management skills are amazing! She manages the groups perfectly and does an outstanding job making sure the pace of play is on point. Tammy was also very friendly and helpful in the pro shop. Even the scorecards are cute with little sayings on every hole. We saw tons of wildlife on the course and the views are STUNNING!! The regular players are very friendly and accommodating!! This course is extremely elevated and cartpath only, so you must make sure that youโ€™re able to physically play this course. Iโ€™ve played courses all over this country and this is the most unique course Iโ€™ve ever played and Iโ€™ve played some strange ones. What a joy!๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒ๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ”๏ธ and the town of Cloudcroft is a must see with lots of shops/taverns etc.

The Lodge golf course is a beautiful and well maintained course. We are beginner golfers and we enjoyed playing the course. The staff are friendly and so are the green fees! Beautiful fairways are tucked into the forest. It's a nine hole course and has a bathroom between the 4 and 5 hole! We can't wait to play The Lodge course again! See ya soon Cloudcroft!!

It is green ๐Ÿ’š, yellow ๐Ÿ’›, orange ๐ŸŠ, and brown ๐ŸคŽ (of you come and play at October); it is a golf course you might describe it using the word "elegant" and "graceful". It was built in 1899, Judy Garland and Clarke Gable used to come and stay here. It's a 9-hole course, but you can play at both red and white for 18-hole, but we played 18 + 9, just to experience more the beautiful scenery of this classic golf course. The design was so nice that you access to each hole with in walk distance, though it's up and down hill. You'll encounter reindeers if you play in the afternoon, they just love to hangout here

Whomever was in the pro shop was cursing up a storm. Course was very poorly maintained, you have to sign a lengthy liability waiver to drive the golf cart, cart path only. To sum it up we stopped after only 8 holes and were refused a partial refund or even store credit. Trashy people, trashy course, poor experience.
