Course Overview
Headwaters Public Golf Course offers a refreshing approach to golf in the heart of Montana's rugged landscape. This 9-hole layout stretches across open terrain at 225 N 7th Ave E, Three Forks, MT, blending gentle elevation changes with wide fairways that encourage an engaging round for golfers of all abilities. While the course may lack an abundance of trees, the openness creates a unique challenge where precision and controlling your shot shape become essential, especially on windy days when the Montana breeze tests every swing.
The greens at Headwaters are known for their firm, fast roll, rewarding well-placed approaches and sharp putting strokes. Water hazards come into play on several holes, adding strategic complexity without overwhelming less experienced players. Those new to the game will find the course forgiving and welcoming, while low handicappers can relish the opportunity to fine-tune their accuracy and course management skills.
The facility itself supports a relaxed round with friendly, attentive staff who maintain a steady pace of play—typically around 1.5 hours per nine holes. The recently upgraded clubhouse features a comfortable pro shop and a social space complete with modern simulators, perfect for post-round entertainment or practice during inclement weather. Guests appreciate the well-enforced course policies aimed at preserving a respectful atmosphere.
For players considering a visit, sturdy shoes are recommended to navigate the open fairways, especially during windy conditions. The lack of heavy tree cover means sun protection is essential on brighter days. The course welcomes walkers, and the terrain provides an easy pace for those who prefer to experience the game on foot.
While Headwaters operates with a 9-hole format, its thoughtful design and well-maintained conditions offer an appealing mix of challenge and enjoyment for Three Forks locals and visitors alike. The course invites a straightforward round that focuses on fundamentals in a friendly, accessible setting unlike any other in the region.

Very busy on a Friday. Firm greens. Water on several holes. Not a lot of trees. Very open course.

Went to the new simulators today which were very nice, spacious and fully secured. The addition to the clubhouse is really cool and is a great place to hang out and play at a very reasonable price of 40/hour. I brought my 1 year old and forgot ear muffs and the staff went far beyond to be helpful by finding me ear plugs which was greatly appreciated and I'm sorry I was too embarrassed to show my gratitude more. Looking forward to starting the season at headwaters again this year!

Our recent weekend round at Headwaters Golf Course was enjoyable to say the least! The staff were friendly and welcoming. As avid golfers who respect the game, we were impressed with and grateful for the manager enforcing the course policies (which were politely explained to some patrons checking in ahead). Policies meant to keep the pace of play up and maintain sportsmanship on the course are clearly posted around the course (no outside alcohol, no 5-somes on weekends, etc.). True lovers of the game understand these rules and are happy to see that they are enforced at Headwaters. Pace of play was quick (around 1.5 hours per nine holes), the course is in wonderful shape and the pro-shop was neat, orderly, and well-stocked. We enjoyed a couple of local craft beers on their covered porch after our round as we watched players come in on hole nine. Players passing up the opportunity to play here are truly missing out. We will absolutely be back!

Great golf course… horrible golfers here. All local drunk douche bags. If you want to play a round under 5 hours good luck. You will have a foursome of old hags in front of you no matter what day or time. Don’t waste your money even with how cheap it is.
